Phil Wickham helped lead worship at Charlie Kirk’s memorial service last month, and he shared how the experience informed his perspective on how Christians should respond to culture moving forward.

“Hey everyone, it’s been one week since I attended Charlie Kirk’s memorial service in Phoenix, Arizona, where myself and several other incredibly anointed worship leaders and good friends of mine were invited in to lead worship at the beginning of the memorial service for no less than two hours,” Wickham said in a Sunday video. “You guys, two hours of uninterrupted, full on Jesus-lifted-high worship, saying Christ is king, preaching the gospel.”

He described the experience as “so beautiful” and “so holy.”

“I can’t remember a time that I felt the presence of God weigh on me like that,” Wickham continued. “It was just incredible. And then, I was so blessed and moved that that’s the way that Charlie’s family and friends wanted to honor Charlie but also to honor the Lord which is to give the first two hours to Jesus.”

“And then it went right into a gospel presentation where, like, the full, non-watered down gospel, like, the full gospel was preached, you guys; atonement and blood of the lamb and the cross and the empty grave and that we need to repent and call in the name of Jesus and salvation offering was given for people to stand up and so many people in the room stood up…I just see God working in a new and special way and the church needs to rise up in love and humility and preach Him like nothing else matters,” he added.

Church attendance has skyrocketed across the country since Kirk’s death. The political activist was extremely outspoken about his faith and brought it into every conversation he could. The county has responded to his death with a massive revival, as members of the highest offices of our country proclaim the gospel.

“Charlie had big plans, but God had even bigger plans,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegesth said at the memorial service. “Charlie started a political movement but unleashed a spiritual revival.”

Meanwhile, Kirk’s widow, Erika, has been a shining example of the gospel, forgiving her husband’s killer.

“On the cross, our savior said, ‘Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.’ That man, that young man. I forgive him,” Erika said while speaking at her husband’s memorial.

“I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and is what Charlie would do,” she continued. “The answer to hate is not hate. The answer we know from the Gospel is love, is always love. Love for our enemies and love for those who persecute us.”

While the tragedy of Kirk’s death continues to rock his family, friends and followers, it is incredible to see how the Lord has used it to reach millions of people and transform their hearts.
