ESPN JEOPARDY!’s host is confirmed — it’s none other than MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL announcer Joe Buck.

The show, which doesn’t have a launch date yet, will stream on Disney+ or Hulu.

Contestants will be asked questions that “cover the full spectrum of ESPN content” for a grand prize of $500,000. The new show joins the main JEOPARDY! franchise along with CELEBRITY JEOPARDY! and POP CULTURE JEOPARDY! The Hollywood Reporter said.

Buck already served as a guest host on JEOPARDY after Alex Trebek died in 2021. Buck, who’s been at Fox Sports for years, has hosted MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL with Troy Aikman since 2022.

He also has experience as a game show player. Last year, he and Oliver Hudson hopped on WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE to raise money for charity.

Buck is still assumed to keep his MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL duties amid his new JEOPARDY! job.

The JEOPARDY! franchise previously ventured into sports with its offshoot, SPORTS JEOPARDY! hosted by Dan Patrick, which aired on Crackle for over two years. It has been two decades since ESPN last entered the game show space. Sports trivia show STUMP THE SCHWAB aired from 2004 to 2006.

Ken Jennings, a former contestant who hosts JEOPARDY!, currently faces tough competition for his 74-game win streak from contestant Jamie Ding.

“If he were to hypothetically win game No. 75, that would be a record that nobody’s beaten for 20-odd years,” Jennings said. “I would be very excited, actually…If he wins, I’ll eat my hat.'”

Ding, a New Jersey Law student, has won 28 consecutive games and $774,601, per Detroit Free Press. He holds fifth place for all-time victories on the show.

An audience member recently asked Jennings if Ding would “take” his job as JEOPARDY! host.

“Yes, that’s what happens,” Jennings joked. “If you hit game No. 75, a trap door opens beneath me and I disappear.”

He added, “But I actually believe that my record can be beaten. And I just hope I am hosting when it happens.”

Many fans have a soft spot for Jennings, crediting his likability.

One fan commented, “Ken was meant for this and the perfect person to carry on Alex’s legacy. He’s such a great down to earth person.”

Another said of Jennings’ comments, “This is the mark of a great champion — not just understanding that their records are temporary, but hoping they get to see the next generation surpass their achievements. 👏”

The next episode of JEOPARDY! airs this evening on ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox, depending on your local channels.
