Hootie & The Blowfish member Darius Rucker recently revealed why he is “so against” his children following his footsteps into the music industry.
“They’re awesome,” Rucker told Taste of Country of his three kids, Carolyn, 30, Daniella, 24, and Jack, 21. “My two youngest all of a sudden want to be musicians, which I am so against that.”
The country singer explained that it’s “such a hard business,” adding, “Even if you have a little bit of success, you’re chasing that forever.”
“I wanted them to be doctors and lawyers and such, but, you know, we’ll see,” Rucker joked.
Rucker has previously spoken about how important his children are to him. They joined their dad for his Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony, where Rucker called them “my heart [and] my soul.”

“They’re everything to me and everything I do is for them,” he continued, then addressed his kids, saying, “It’s just been an amazing thing to be your father. As great as all this stuff is, it’s not as cool as being your dad, and I really mean that. I love you guys so much.”
In a 2023 interview with PEOPLE, Rucker shared his worries about being an empty nester following youngest son Jack’s departure for college.
“I’m scared. I hope I don’t have too much fun,” he joked. “But you’re just so proud of your kids and reaching those milestones. I better spend time playing a lot of golf and traveling around and probably traveling to the city that they’re at so I can see them.”
Rucker recently shared the news of his engagement to content creator and singer Emily Deahl.
“Thank you for showing me a level of happiness I have never known,” he captioned an Instagram photo of the proposal. “The day I met you I knew I didn’t want to go another one without you. Now I don’t have to.”
Deahl reshared the post, telling her followers, “I never intended on keeping this part of my life from you guys for so long, but somewhere along the way of loving him I discovered how sacred love is to me. And all I wanted to do was protect it.”
She then joked, “But…I’m glad I don’t have to spend the time photoshopping him out of every photo now.”
Rucker might not be excited about his kids’ interest in the music industry, but with a dad that talented, it’s no wonder they want to share their musical skills!
