HGTV star Ty Pennington is happy that his dog, Dory, has her tail wagging again after recent health issues.
“Welp, I made it to 61 today,” he said in a social media post on Oct. 19. “It wasn’t quite the birthday weekend we had planned. Spent several hours at the emergency vet yesterday. Instead of birthday wishes I’m gonna be selfish for a moment [and] ask that you send Dory some healing thoughts and prayers.”
He said, “This little girl is dealing with a bad back, and we’re really hoping she doesn’t need a second surgery. I love her more than anything, she’s my #souldog as they say 😔🙏🏼❤️🐶”
On Nov. 4, he gave an emotional update and thanked everyone who prayed for his dog.
“She’s been resting lots and was prescribed an additional anti-inflammatory, which thankfully brought back her little personality,” he said. “Her back legs aren’t working so great right now, but we’re hopeful that with lots of rest and therapy, she will regain her strength.”

He shared photos of Dory resting and hanging out with her sister, Phoebe.
“Thanks for the update, we are rooting for you Dory and sending all the,” said 100 DAY DREAM HOME star Mika Kleinschmidt.
Former TRADING SPACES host Paige Davis said, “Bless her wittle little heart. 🐾 Sending lots of healing love to your warrior princess.”
In September, the EXTREME HOME MAKEOVER star said, “Dory and I have moments where we just lick each other’s faces for almost three minutes. It’s pretty disgusting to anyone who doesn’t understand dog love.”
In other news, Pennington has recently pushed for jobs in the trade industry. He’s partnered with SkillsUSAand other organizations to help recruit young people to learn trade skills.
“The skilled labor gap is real. So we’re at 5 or 2, meaning for every 5 skilled laborers that are either leaving the business or retiring, only 2 enter. So that’s creating a major gap in talent,” he said in April.
The labor gap affects numerous industries, from aircraft maintenance and manufacture to robotics and construction. A Skilled Trade Insight Research Study recently found that 43% of students would consider a trade career if they had more information about their options and ideas of success.
“I’m glad to be back and continue to do all that I can to encourage more young people to pursue a career in the trades,” Pennington said, “which are a great way to write your own ticket to success.”
Let’s keep Pennington’s beloved pet in our prayers!
