Zachary Levi shared that because he has held strong to his beliefs and had the courage to question certain parts of mainstream media, he has been given fewer roles by Hollywood.

“I might go so far as to say I was graylisted, I guess,” Levi told Fox News Digital. “I’m still getting jobs, and I’m still grateful – very grateful – to be working. And I still have a lot of friends in the industry, people who still want to work with me.”

“There’s definitely been a lot of blowback and pushback. There are people in the industry who don’t want to work with me – because I had the audacity to say I didn’t think Kamala Harris was the right choice in our last election and because I called corporations like Pfizer to account…” the SHAZAM! actor added. “I am pro-science. I am pro-health. I am pro-human. I’m a libertarian, I’m not even conservative.”

Like many others who have had their acting career impacted by their politics, Levi found himself starring in more faith-based movies than mainstream stories. His most recent project is SARAH’S OIL, the first movie from Wonder Project which highlighted an amazing true story about faith and perseverance. A portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:

SARAH’S OIL is extremely well directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh. Zachary Levi gives his best performance yet in a movie. Everyone else in the cast is also great, including Naya Desin-Johnson as Sarah. SARAH’S OIL is extremely well written, with intense jeopardy that’s relieved by wonderful humor and spiritual drama. The ending is terrific. SARAH’S OIL has an inspiring, uplifting Christian, moral worldview. MOVIEGUIDE® applauds SARAH’S OIL. However, there’s a smattering of foul language and some scary violence, so MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children.

Nonetheless, the fact that Levi can continue to land rolls perhaps suggests that Hollywood is becoming more open to conservative beliefs as his peers of the past were fully blacklisted from the industry for years. Neal McDonough, for example, was unable to land consistent roles for years because he refused to kiss a woman on screen.

“We all know that I kind of went through troubles years back because I won’t kiss another woman on screen,” McDonough told Fox Business in 2024. “At the time it was painful. I didn’t work for two years; I lost everything, house, cars and this and that. It was one of the most brutal times in my life.”

“I am very religious. I put God and family first, and me second. That’s what I live by. It was hard for a few years,” he said.

It is encouraging to see actors like Levi stand up for what they believe in and look to hold accountable those who he believes are getting away with more than they should. Hopefully he will continue to stand strong, even if it starts to impact his career more.
