Looking for some conversation-starters for this year’s holiday meal? Try out these Thanksgiving trivia facts!
When it comes to the dinner table, there’s plenty of inspiration for some fun fact-sharing. TODAY’s website shared a number of food-related trivia, including “Are pumpkins a fruit or vegetable?” The answer? Fruit.
The site also asked, “According to a poll [conducted by Tastes Better From Scratch], what Thanksgiving side dish is the least popular among Americans?” Answer: Green bean casserole.
You can also wow dinner companions with your knowledge of Thanksgiving history. For example, Good Housekeeping shared their own list of Thanksgiving trivia, including “How long was the first Thanksgiving?” (Three days).

Americans are familiar with the practice of U.S. presidents “pardoning” turkeys around this time every Thanksgiving, but did you know the first to do so was President George H.W. Bush?
While Thanksgiving is a purely American holiday, did you know there’s another place in the world that celebrates? Australia’s Norfolk Island observes the holiday, a tradition that began when American whaling ships would stop on the island in the late 1800s.

This last one will majorly stump your friends and family: What popular Christmas song was originally written for Thanksgiving? The answer: “Jingle Bells.” Originally titled “One Horse Open Sleigh” by composer James Lord Pierpont, the song was reportedly first performed for a Thanksgiving service at Pierpont’s family church, per History.com.
