Marcello Hernández and Skyler Gisondo are the latest stars to join the cast of SHREK 5.
“The two actors are set to join the cast of SHREK 5 as Shrek and Fiona’s sons, Fergus and Farkle,” according to Variety.
Hernández rose to fame on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE and is starting to build a movie career with roles in HAPPY GILMORE 2 and the upcoming 72 HOURS. Gisondo starred in this summer’s blockbuster SUPERMAN, as well as movies like LICORICE PIZZA and BOOKSMART.
“Thankful to join the swamp 🤯🙏 @shrek,” Hernández posted on Instagram, along with photos and videos of himself painted green. Gisondo commented on the post, writing, “Brogres 4 lyfe 💚.”

Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz are all reprising their roles as Shrek, Donkey and Fiona, respectively, while Zendaya joined the cast as Shrek and Fiona’s daughter Felicia.
The DUNE actress is also a fan of the franchise. A 2017 tweet from Zendaya started making the rounds on X, formerly known as Twitter, when she was announced as a cast member: “I watch SHREK too often in my adulthood.”
“We started doing [SHREK 5] months ago,” Murphy told Collider last year. “I did this. I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year, we’ll finish it up. SHREK is coming out and Donkey’s gonna have his own movie. We’re gonna do Donkey as well. So we’re gonna do a SHREK, and we’re doing a Donkey [movie].”
In an interview with ScreenRant earlier this summer, Murphy elaborated on the Donkey movie, saying, “Donkey’s going to have his own movie, own little story with his dragon wife and his kids that are half-dragon and half-donkeys. They’ve written this funny story. We’re doing that, starting that in September.”
Plot details are scarce for SHREK 5, but producer Chris Meledandri spoke to Variety about the process of finding a story that felt fresh, while honoring the movies that have come before.
“When you look back on those vocal performances they’re awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations,” Meledandri explained. “The challenge for us has been to find something that really does feel like it’s not simply yet another film in a series of sequels.”
SHREK 5 will hit theaters June 30, 2027.
