FULL HOUSE star Dave Coulier recently shared his tongue cancer diagnosis, just seven months after announcing he had beaten Stage 3 non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.

“A couple of months ago, I had a PET scan, and something flared on the scan,” Coulier said while appearing on the TODAY show. “The doctor said, ‘We don’t know what it is, but there’s something at the base of your tongue.’”

He underwent a biopsy, which didn’t show any initial signs of cancer, but another PET scan, CT scan, MRI and biopsy confirmed he had early stage, P16-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.

“They said it’s totally unrelated to my non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This is a new cancer,” Coulier said, joking, “I said, ‘Are you kidding me?’”

He continued, “We found it early enough where it’s very treatable…It’s got a 90% curability rate. The doctor said the prognosis is good, but we’re going to start radiation immediately.”

“The silver lining here is that I had cancer, which helped me detect my other cancer. It seems crazy to be making that statement, but it’s true,” Coulier said. “Had I not gone in and listened to my doctors and made sure that I got that PET scan to follow up, we would have never found this carcinoma…and I could be in a world of hurt. This could have progressed immensely, and I would be in trouble.”

He also encouraged others to listen to their doctors and take tests like mammograms and colonoscopies.

“It sucks having to go through cancer, but it’s a magnificent position to be in where you realize you have a voice that can actually save someone’s life,” Coulier said. “I don’t know that that has happened, but I like to believe that when I’m talking about it and encouraging people that maybe I helped one person.”

Coulier announced in March of this year that he was cancer-free, telling Parade, “Melissa and I waited for a week to get the biopsy results back, and there is no sign of cancer. One of the few times in my life when ‘zero’ has been a great number to hear.”

The FULL HOUSE actor shared his diagnosis in 2024 during an episode of the TODAY show.

“You hear chemo, and it scares the daylights out of you,” Coulier said at the time. “The first round was pretty intense because you don’t know what to expect. You don’t know how you’re going to feel. Is this going to hit me immediately? Is it going to be devastating? Am I going to walk out of here?”

Please pray for Coulier as he begins his battle with this second round of cancer.
