Christian-owned retailer Hobby Lobby is giving away half a million copies of Lee Strobel’s “The Case For Christmas.”
“Originally, I wrote the book as a way to encourage the faith of believers, but also to be a spiritual stocking-stuffer, an inexpensive gift that you can give to someone you’re trying to reach out to,” Strobel told CBN News. “Hobby Lobby took half a million copies to give away for free…which I think is wonderful.”

Strobel originally published “The Case For Christmas: A Journalist Investigates the Identity of the Child in the Manger” in 2005. The book “searches out the true identity of the child in the manger,” per a description of the book.
“‘The Case for Christmas’ invites you to consider why Christmas matters in the first place. Somewhere beyond the traditions of the holiday lies the truth,” the description continues. “It may be more compelling than you’ve realized. Weigh the facts . . . and decide for yourself.”
Strobel released a “completely revised and updated version” of the book in September, and encouraged people to give copies to people in their lives.
“Let’s not leave anybody behind this Christmas,” he said. “Let’s share the Gospel far and wide, let’s invite people recklessly to come to church with us and you’ll be surprised at how many people…will say, ‘Yes.’”
Hobby Lobby has been a longtime supporter of the Christian faith. Per their website, they are “committed to honoring the Lord in all we do by operating the company in a manner consistent with Biblical principles.”
Their giveaway of Strobel’s book comes at a time when Americans are more open to faith than ever before — especially over the holidays.
According to research conducted by Lifeway Research, “56% [of people who don’t normally attend church] say it’s likely they would show up to church this time of the year if someone they knew invited them, including 40% of the religious unaffiliated.”
Strobel called it a “powerful statistic,” adding, “Here we have the Christmas season — this is an opportunity for us to seize. … Invite them to Christmas Eve services at your church. Yeah, it’s a little uncomfortable to do sometimes, but take a spiritual risk and invite them. Don’t just say, ‘Hey, why don’t you come?’ Offer to pick them up and take them. … Then you’re pretty much 100% assured they’re gonna show up.”
Hobby Lobby’s giveaway is the perfect opportunity to help share the Christmas story with the people in your life.
