After the surprise cancellation of NCIS: TONY & ZIVA, fans are curious if they will ever see these characters again, whether it be on the flagship show or a new spinoff series.
“We feel incredibly lucky to have had the chance to play these characters once again and to tell the next chapter of Tony and Ziva’s story,” stars Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo said in a joint statement. “Our deepest thanks go to our extraordinary cast, crew, writers, directors, and producers, and to our partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+ who helped make this dream a reality. But most of all, we want to thank the fans around the world who joined us on this adventure and finally got to see Tony and Ziva find their happily ever after.”

Unfortunately, there do not seem to be any plans to bring these characters back in the future as Weatherly and de Pablo have not teased any plans to return to the flagship NCIS. Meanwhile, while a petition has been started to bring TONY & ZIVA back for a second season, it does not seem to have enough interest to change CBS’s mind.
The cancellation of TONY & ZIVA is disappointing as not only are these characters beloved, but the show was also well produced and featured many of the qualities that have made NCIS so popular. A portion of Movieguide®’s review of the series reads:
The first two episodes of NCIS: TONY & ZIVA continue the thrills and comedy that made NCIS so popular. They have exciting and sometimes funny action scenes with fighting, gun battles and jeopardy. However, the episodes miss the camaraderie of the rest of the NCIS team. They’re also marred by seven annoying, unnecessary strong obscenities and profanities. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution for TONY & ZIVA.
At the very least, fans of NCIS were able to get more closure about Tony and Ziva’s story than they originally had as they did not even know if the couple was together, given that Tony thought Ziva was dead for years.
“‘Whatever happened to Tony and Ziva, do you think they’ll ever get back together, where are they?’ And all of a sudden, we had the opportunity to put it together into a show,” de Pablo said when first discussing the show. “We’re trying to address all of these questions, and the idea of trust, and how they move forward…they’re trying to make things work while also parenting and having a lot of challenges thrown at them.”
Thankfully, by the end of the first season, these questions were answered, and Tony and Ziva fans are now up to date on the happenings of their lives. Nonetheless, given the extreme popularity of these characters, fans will always be eager for more looks into their lives any chance they get.
