Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss relied on his faith and his pre-game prayer with his mom this season.

“I rely on it heavily,” he said of prayer in an interview at the Fiesta Bowl, adding, “You know, I pray with my mom, you know, before the games, as you guys see, I pray every night. I try to go to church every Sunday.”

“But yeah, I always lean on, you know, my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. You know, whenever times are difficult or times are good, I feel like He’s the key to my life, and I always put Him first,” the quarterback emphasized.

Chambliss went on to talk about the importance of prayer in his life.

“Yeah, prayer is powerful, you know, it kind of eases my mind a little bit whenever I go over there and pray with my mom, and she says a little short prayer for a healthy game and, if it’s God’s will, that we get the win. Then, you know, we do whatever it takes to glorify His name, and that’s truly special, and that just means a lot to me before every game,” the explained.

Chambliss played his first four years at Division II school, Ferris State, before making his way to Ole Miss. At the start of this season, the athlete helped lead the Rebels to a 5-0 start.

“It’s like a dream come true,” Chambliss said after Ole Miss beat LSU. “…It’s an amazing accomplishment. Got to thank God for that one, He’s been with me the whole time. I’ve got to thank [head coach Lane Kiffin] — the whole staff here at Ole Miss — for giving me the opportunity to come here and showcase my skill set, showcase what I can do.”

When Chambliss first appeared in the SEC, he immediately began to talk about Christ, using his platform as an opportunity to share his faith.

“God’s got me. My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was with me the whole time,” Chamblis said after his game against Arkansas. “But I was a little nervous.”

According to Sports Spectrum, through his first five games this season, “Chambliss has thrown for 1,033 yards with a 64.4% completion percentage and five touchdowns against only one interception. Always a threat on the ground as well as through the air, he’s also rushed for 266 yards and two touchdowns on 50 carries. Chambliss is the first SEC player in the past 30 years to accumulate 300 passing yards and 50 rushing yards in three consecutive games, and on Monday was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week and AP National Player of the Week after his performance against LSU.”

Ole Miss did make it to the final four of this year’s College Football Playoffs but lost to Miami in the semi-finals. Despite the loss, Chambliss continued to rely on his faith in Jesus Christ.
