New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye couldn’t help but praise God for the huge win against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

“I thank the good Lord,” Maye said after a reporter asked him about what it feels like to be heading to the Super Bowl.

The Patriots beat the Broncos 10-7 in a freezing blizzard at Empower Field in Colorado.

In the snowy conditions, Maye only threw for just “86 yards, but ran for 65 and iced the win with a 7-yard keeper on third-and-5 in the waning minutes to send the Patriots (17-3) to the Super Bowl in Mike Vrabel’s first year as coach,” per ESPN.

“I’m just proud of this team,” Maye continued to say in his post-game interview. “Don’t have many words. Just thankful for this team. Love each and every one of them. It took everybody.”

On Friday before the big game, the athlete spoke with the press about what it would mean to him to get a first-ever playoff win in Denver, something the legendary Patriots quarterback Tom Brady didn’t even accomplish.

“It’d be huge. I mean, just the AFC Championship, the chance to go to the Super Bowl. That’d be huge,” Maye said. “Another road environment that’s had success in the past. They’ve had success since Coach [Sean] Payton has been there, and they have great players, and they’ve got a great team. I know it would be a big-time win, obviously, and I think for us just to play to our standard and play to our road — kind of what we’ve been doing on the road all season long. I know it’s going to be a tough challenge. They’ve got a great team, so we’re going to have a tough challenge, but I’m looking forward to getting out there, and getting a chance to possibly celebrate on an away field would be pretty special.”

Maye also spoke about his faith and how he wished to play against Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, as Maye and Nix have grown close over the years. Nix had suffered a season-ending ankle injury ahead of the Broncos/Patriots face-off.

“I got to train with Bo [during] the pre-draft and got to know him well; him and his family and his wife,” Maye said during his postgame press conference after the Patriots beat the Texans to advance to the AFC Championship game. “First off, they’re just great people. Great Christians. I’ve really enjoyed being around Bo Nix and his family. Obviously, the news was heartbreaking for the player he is, the guy he is. I’m just praying for Bo and I know he’s going to bounce back. He’s a great player in this league. I look forward to matching up with him.”

Maye and the Patriots are ready to continue their great season at Super Bowl LX on Sunday, Feb. 8. The Patriots will face a tough Seattle Seahawks defense.
