Erik Per Sullivan was not interested to return as Dewey in MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE: LIFE’S STILL UNFAIR, even though he was offered an impressive sum.

Per Sullivan is currently a student at Harvard, Variety reported this week.

Jane Kaczmarek, who played Per Sullivan’s on-screen mother, said he is “studying Dickens and is an incredible student. They offered him buckets of money to come back, and he just said, ‘No thank you.’”

He is the only cast member who declined. Caleb Ellsworth-Clark replaces Sullivan on the reboot.

Frankie Muniz made the show a top priority despite his crazy schedule as a NASCAR driver.

“I would film Sunday through Wednesday, fly Thursday, race Friday, and fly back Saturday,” Muniz said. “It was exhausting, but I also know how cool it is to have the opportunity to get to do this again, so I wasn’t going to complain at all. I am so thankful to everybody on the production for working around my NASCAR schedule.”

He loved filming the show in Vancouver over six weeks.

“It was the first time in my career as an actor that I was happy to have the label ‘actor,'” Muniz said. “When I was a kid, I just showed up and said the words and it all worked out. Now, I’m making a plan going into the scene. Doing the prep makes the process really, really fun.”

His on-screen dad, Bryan Cranston, also had a blast.

“When I read the script for MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE, I laughed out loud,” Cranston said. “It was so well-constructed, so well-written that I knew if I could be on that show, I would be proud of it.”

“It didn’t mean that it would be successful, because success in television ratings or box office takes a lot of luck. [But] what I’ve learned from that is, the best thing to do is to follow the well-written word,” he said.

Muniz told The Guardian that he was excited to work with Cranston again.

“Throughout all the success he’s had, he’s always been there to support whatever I’m doing,” he said.

“When I had the olive oil company, he bought the olive oil. I was in a band, and he came to the shows. When I was racing, he checked on me after a wreck. I was just excited to spend more time with him,” he said.

The series premieres on April 10 on Hulu and Disney+.
