Len Cariou reprised his role as Henry Reagan in the newest episode of BOSTON BLUE last week, and fans are thrilled.

The episode sees Henry pay a visit to see his grandson, Danny, and great-grandson, Sean, a rookie cop in Boston.

“A drive-by shooting at the church pulls Lena and Danny into the complicated past of one of Reverend Peters’ associates. Mae faces painful revelations about her family, the team manages internal friction and grandfather Henry comes to visit,” a synopsis of the episode reads, per CBS.

It meant a lot to Danny to have Henry visit.

“There was a very special relationship between Danny and Gramps on BLUE BLOODS,” executive producer Brandon Sonnier told TV Insider of Cariou’s cameo. “He was always sort of the go-to for advice. Yes, there was Frank [Tom Selleck], but it always felt like father and son had a little bit of friction, and in order to smooth that friction over, it was grandpa that Danny would go to. It felt like the right move to have Len show up in Boston as sort of the ambassador for the Reagans, and just a check-in and a touchstone to what’s happening back home, and also where Danny is in his journey of moving to Boston and being away from the family for so long.”

Along with seeing his great-grandson in uniform, Henry also visited some old BPD friends.

“But he also has a third reason for being there, which is a surprise gift for his grandson, Danny,” executive producer Brandon Margolis said.

“Thankfully, [Henry is] arriving at a time where things between Danny and Sean are actually in a pretty solid place, but he is there,” Sonnier continued. “He is coming to Boston with his own motive, which is an emotional story that gets told over the course of the episode and revealed by the end. But what was exciting for us was the chance for him to get to spend time with both Danny and Sean.”

“It was a lovely emotional moment to see Henry with his great-grandson in uniform, and the pride that was on his face was really moving,” the executive producer added. “It was a fun day to film.”

Fans gushed with excitement in the comment section of an Instagram post showing pictures of Cariou, Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan, and Mika Amonsen, who plays Sean Reagan.

“Can’t wait for this 💙,” one person wrote. Another said, “Aww we’ve missed you Henry! 💚💙”

In the comment section of another post, one fan called the episode “straight fire,” adding, “I love this. good job [sic] it was good to see gramps in the episode.”

“Great job to the crew and the writers and the staff and the episodes were straight on point,” another echoed.

The episode, titled “Beautifully Broken Things,” is currently streaming on CBS.
