NASA Artemis II crew member Victor Glover thanked God for his recent experience in space.

“When this started, I wanted to thank God in public, and I want to thank God again, because even bigger than my challenge trying to describe what we went through, the gratitude of seeing what we saw, doing what we did, and being with who I was with, it’s too big to just be in one body,” he said at a recent press conference.

Glover, along with NASA crew members Reid Wiseman and Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen, recently completed a lunar flyby mission, traveling deeper into space than any human being had ever gone before.

“This was not easy,” Wiseman said at the press conference. “Before you launch, it feels like it’s the greatest dream on Earth. And when you’re out there, you just want to get back to your families and your friends. It’s a special thing to be a human, and it’s a special thing to be on planet Earth.”

Hansen reflected on the love and joy that he saw in both his crew, as well as in the people on Earth following their mission.

“What you saw was a group of people who loved contributing, having meaningful contribution and extracting joy out of that,” he explained. “And what we’ve been hearing is that was something special for you to witness. I would suggest to you that when you look up here, you’re not looking at us. We are a mirror reflecting you, and if you like what you see, then just look a little deeper. This is you.”

While in space, the Artemis II crew gave frequent updates about what they were seeing, including, per Koch in an interview with NBC News, “the dark side of the moon.”

“The darker parts just aren’t quite in the right place,” she explained. “And something about you senses that is not the moon that I’m used to seeing. That is the dark side. That is something we have never seen before.”

The astronauts also spoke about how seeing Earth from above showed them that our divisions are unimportant.

“Trust us, you look amazing, you look beautiful,” Glover joked of Earth, continuing, “You also look like one thing. Homo sapiens is all of us, no matter where you’re from or what you look like. We’re all one people.”

People around the world were inspired by the Artemis II mission and are happy the astronauts made it home safely!
