Former MLB prospect Brian Kirby tragically died on a church rooftop in Arkansas last week.
Kirby, 46, died on April 15 while he worked as an HVAC technician on the roof of a church in North Little Rock, Arkansas, PEOPLE reported.
“This morning, a tragic accident occurred at our church building involving an employee of Kirby Heating and Air. He was more than an employee — he was part of our family and our community. Tragically, he lost his life. He was a highly skilled and experienced HVAC technician, and his loss is deeply felt,” the Graves Memorial Baptist Church first shared after the accident happened.
“As first responders conclude their work, we want to give them — and especially the family — space, privacy and respect. There will be no church services tonight, and our TAG Fellowship scheduled for tomorrow is also canceled,” the church continued. “We ask that you please pray for the Brian Kirby family, the Kirby Heating and Air team and all those impacted by this heartbreaking situation. May God bring comfort and peace in the midst of this sorrow.”

Many people of the church community offered their condolences for Kirby’s family.
“My heart breaks for the Kirby family and for our church family. The angels welcomed our brother in Christ home today and we await the day we’ll see him again. May God provide comfort and healing of hearts to all that knew him,” one congregant wrote.
Another added, “We are all praying for everyone! Especially for Jennifer and the girls. This truly is heartbreaking! Electricity is so dangerous. We are so, so sorry, especially as he was working on our church family’s place of worship. We pray the Lord brings comfort as only our heavenly father can!”
Kirby’s cousin, Allison Avra Guerin, called him “one of the good ones.”
“There are things of this world that I will just never understand,” Guerin shared on Facebook. “It truly breaks my heart to its core. But, I do know the promise of eternity on the other side. And for that, I can only rejoice through the sadness knowing Brian is there celebrating until we meet again soon.”
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office has not revealed the cause of death but did say that “deputies were called to the church at about 11:20 a.m. and found Kirby unresponsive on the roof. Authorities used a drone to locate his body near two air conditioning units on the roof,'” The Christian Post reported.
Kirby was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in 1997 and then the Cleveland Indians in 2001. He reached the Triple-A level, which is the highest level of play in the minor league.
According to Guerin, Kirby is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and two daughters, along with his parents and sister.
Pray for the entire Kirby family as well as his community as they mourn his loss.
