Save the Storks unveiled a 40-week pregnancy video series Tuesday, pairing every stage of a mother’s nine months with a short, plainspoken answer from a board-certified Ob/Gyn.

“We wanted women to have immediate access to trustworthy, compassionate and life-affirming information wherever they are searching for answers,” said Dr. Karysse J. Hutson, DO, FACOOG, board-certified Ob/Gyn surgeon and national medical director of Save the Storks, in the May 19 announcement. “Many young women today search for health information through video platforms. We recognized there was a major need for pregnancy content that both supports mothers and affirms the value of their children.”

Called “Pregnancy Week by Week: Dr. Hutson’s Guide,” the YouTube series tracks all 40 weeks of pregnancy, with each video answering one question tied to a specific week. Topics range from warning signs of preeclampsia and fetal development milestones to signs of labor and what happens when a baby decides to overstay the due date.

The launch lands against a sobering backdrop. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported that nearly half of mothers surveyed said they held back from discussing concerns during pregnancy or delivery, often fearing embarrassment, worrying about looking difficult or sensing that their doctor was already late for the next appointment.

“Women deserve to feel informed, respected and empowered throughout pregnancy,” Dr. Hutson said. “This series was created to walk alongside mothers with practical guidance, medical insight and encouragement during every stage of pregnancy.”

The week 20 video gives a feel for the tone — warm, specific, and unmistakably affirming of the baby on the other end of the ultrasound.

“Your baby at 20 weeks is about 10 and a half inches and about 10 to 11 ounces, about the size of a banana,” Dr. Hutson said. “So, the baby can hear you and feel you, and will sometimes push back when you push on the baby. This is a fun time to start interacting with your child.”

Dr. Hutson is no newcomer to this work. She has volunteered with Save the Storks since 2016 and stepped into the national medical director role in January 2023, while also serving as an assistant professor of Ob/Gyn at the University of Central Florida and an associate scholar with the Charlotte Lozier Institute.

The Plano, Texas-based nonprofit runs a national network of pregnancy health clinic partners alongside its fleet of mobile medical clinics — the ultrasound-equipped buses that have become the organization’s calling card. The new video series will run free on the Save the Storks YouTube channel and be distributed to those clinics for use with patients and families seeking additional education and support.

“Pregnancy can bring uncertainty and questions, especially for women who feel unsupported or overwhelmed,” Dr. Hutson said. “We hope these videos help mothers feel more confident, more informed and more connected throughout their pregnancy journey.”

For Christian families, the appeal goes beyond medical accuracy. A physician who refers to the baby as a baby — and treats the child in the womb as someone worth poking back at — is doing quiet, countercultural work in a field that too often resorts to clinical hedging.

Movieguide® has long tracked the cultural pull of pro-life storytelling, from THE MATTER OF LIFE to UNPLANNED, and audiences keep showing up for movies that affirm the dignity of every life. Save the Storks is betting they’ll show up for sound medical video, too — one week at a time.
