After saying goodbye to his long-running role as Frank Reagan on BLUE BLOODS, Tom Selleck is ready to get back in the saddle — literally.

The 81-year-old actor has expressed interest in returning to the Western genre that defined much of his career. While Selleck is perhaps best known for his roles on MAGNUM, P.I. and BLUE BLOODS, he also built a strong reputation as a Western star through films such as THE SHADOW RIDERS, THE SACKETTS and QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER.

“I wouldn’t say [offers] are pouring in, but maybe some people are thinking of me,” the actor told Parade in 2024 of his plans after BLUE BLOODS. “A good Western’s always on my list. I miss that; I want to sit on a horse again.”

For Selleck, the western life isn’t just a desired role; it’s a way of life. The actor currently lives on a working avocado ranch.

“We have a little avocado harvest every year,” he previously revealed.

Selleck starred in THE SACKETTS alongside Sam Elliott, who appeared in Taylor Sheridan’s YELLOWSTONE prequel 1883. Selleck praised Elliott’s performance and possibly hinted at his interest in working with Sheridan.

“Sam was great in [1883]. Sam’s always great. We go way, way back. I love him dearly. I’d love to work with Sam,” he said.

Although no Western is in the works just yet, Selleck has devoted his time to other projects, including one that taps into his BLUE BLOODS roots. He’s set to host CRIME AND JUSTICE WITH TOM SELLECK for the History Channel, his first major TV project since BLUE BLOODS ended.

“The 10-episode, one-hour series examines the true stories behind some of the most consequential crimes and investigations in American history, tracing the enduring battle between law and lawlessness—and the lawmen who ultimately brought some of the nation’s most dangerous criminals to justice,” the description reads.

In a statement, Selleck said, “Throughout my career, I’ve been drawn to stories about consequences and the pursuit of justice,” he said. “This series looks at real cases from across American history and the people tasked with seeing them through—moments when the pressure was intense, the outcome uncertain, and the decisions carried lasting consequences.”

“Tom has long brought credibility and insight to stories about law and justice,” added Eli Lehrer, Executive Vice President and Head of Programming for The HISTORY Channel. “That background makes him a natural partner for this project. We’re pleased to be working with Tom on a series that looks at real crimes, real investigations, and the people responsible for upholding the law when the stakes were highest.”

Whether or not a Selleck stars in a Western again, he’s sure to keep entertaining his fans.
