Country singer Annie Bosko held onto her faith when one of the most important assets in her life, her voice, was taken from her.
“I started writing my own songs — which always were country songs—which led to me going to Nashville to pursue country music,” she told “The Jesus Calling Podcast” of her start in country music.
But one day, an injury suddenly and unexpectedly set back her career.
“It was wild because [my] vocal cord surgery happened at a time where I had a new project and there were deals on the table, and I thought, ‘This is it; everything’s working. Everything I ever wanted to happen is happening.’ And then just like bam, I had an injury on my vocal cord,” Bosko said on the podcast. “I was singing in a show, I [had] just started singing, and it was like just air came out.”
She continued, “Nothing was coming out, which is terrifying as a singer, because growing up, I think it was always my superpower. And then, it became what I was identified as. I think when you sing particularly, it’s so interwoven with your soul. It’s like an extension of your soul, your voice, because it’s God-given. And so, it’s my identity, it’s my income. It’s like it is everything, and all of a sudden, it’s gone.”

Bosko got the help she needed through surgery followed by speech pathology and a vocal coach. The combination of what she calls “these angels on earth” helped her to recover.
“I was singing things that I couldn’t sing before my vocal cord surgery,” she said. “So, it was crazy because I was seeing this come back through hard work, dedication, rehab, and faith, really. That’s really when your faith is tested the most — when you don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, but you still have to believe that it’s there.”
Although her journey was difficult, Bosko now says it gave her the strength to face anything: “After that, it’s like, ‘Okay, literally the thing that probably means the most to me has been taken from me.’ So if I can get through this, at that point, it’s like you can get through anything.”
Isaiah 43:2 is a powerful reminder that God uses trials to make us lean on Him more. It says, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”
Bosko has held fast to her faith in other circumstances as well.
Recently, she released a song called “Goodbye California” to highlight the concerning anti-Christian things happening in the Golden State.
Earlier this year, she told Fox News Digital, “I don’t believe in getting involved in politics — I care about the state that I grew up in. I love California. So that’s where I stand on things. And there comes a point where right is right and wrong is wrong, and it feels like there’s too much wrong going on.”
Bosko’s highlights the importance of leaning on God in everything. Whether it be a health crisis or standing up for what is right, God is with us.
