A new animated Batman movie is on its way, and DC just dropped the first trailer for the upcoming release.

The movie, titled BATMAN: KNIGHTFALL 1, will be based on one of Batman’s most famous comic book stories.

It follows Batman as he faces one of his toughest enemies, Bane. After Bane causes a massive breakout at Arkham Asylum, Gotham City is flooded with dangerous criminals. Batman must stop the chaos while dealing with exhaustion and growing pressure from all sides.

The trailer shows plenty of action, including fights between Batman and several well-known villains. It also highlights how much Batman is being pushed to his limits. Fans of the original comic will recognize many key moments from the classic Knightfall storyline.

Starring Anson Mount as Batman and Michael Mando as Bane, the new movie is directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jeremy Adams.

“You all know this is a very important story in the Batman mythology,” said Peter Girardi, Executive VP Warner Bros. Animation, of the movie at this year’s Annecy Animation Festival. “It is so big and it was so consequential to the Batman story that it takes place over three films. So this is a trilogy of films. All animated.”

He added, “It’s a story that we’ve held on to for many years because we really wanted to get it right. We needed the right team together.”

Variety reported that this movie is violent like many superhero movies, which is something for parents and viewers to be aware of. However, Girardi believes this is one of the best stories they’ve made.

“We’ve done a lot of DC animated films based on the published material. This is one of the best,” he said.

A release date wasn’t announced, but Batman fans still have plenty of Caped Crusader content ahead.

Prime Video will release a new season of BATMAN CAPED CRUSADER on July 29.

“The Bat is back with a vengeance,” the streamer announced on Instagram.

“I’m pumped. First season was awesome. Love the choice to set it back in the 50s. Makes Batman’s gadgets stand out,” one fan commented. Another wrote, “What a day to be a Batman fan 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥” in reference to the multiple release announcements.

THE BATMAN 2, starring Robert Pattinson, is also on the way, slated for an October 2027 debut. SuperHeroHype reported that production is underway.

The anticipation for the upcoming Batman releases proves what an enduring icon the superhero is.
