Americans Love Socializing on the Internet

Almost two-thirds of Americans, 60%, interact with companies on a social media website like Facebook or MySpace, and 25% interact more than once a week, according to the 2008 Cone Business in Social Media Study.
Nearly all, or 93%, of Americans believe a company should have a presence in social media, while 85% believe a company should not only be present, but should also interact with its customers and prospects via social media.
Also, 56% of American consumers feel both a stronger connection with and better served by companies when they can interact with them in a social media environment.
When Americans were asked about specific types of interactions:
• 43% say companies should use social networks to “solve my problems”;
• 41% want companies to solicit feedback on their products and services; and,

• 37% feel companies should develop new ways for consumers to interact with their brand.
Using social media on the Internet to interact with companies is more of a male thing than a female thing – 33% of American men and 17% of American women interact frequently (weekly or more often) with companies via social media on the Internet.
