6 Faith-Based Movies Streaming on Netflix

By Tess Farrand, Staff Writer

Movieguide® will be one of the first to caution audiences that Netflix oftentimes promotes content options that aren’t family friendly or contradict biblical ideas. Thankfully, there is a glimmer of hope! We’ve compiled a list of six faith-based movie options that edify Christian values! That said, if you’re interested in one of these titles, make sure to click the link to see the full review before clicking play… Happy watching!

  1. THE CASE FOR CHRIST

THE CASE FOR CHRIST is the inside story of how Chicago Tribune journalist Lee Strobel set out to disprove Christianity when his wife, Leslie, became a Christian and challenged Lee’s atheist beliefs. THE CASE FOR CHRIST is a terrific drama reminiscent of ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN, with its own examples of excellent acting. It also brilliantly lays out the facts confirming Jesus Christ’s resurrection but does contain some tense moments and alcohol use requiring caution for younger children.

  1. GOD BLESS THE BROKEN ROAD

GOD BLESS THE BROKEN ROAD tells a profound, poignant story of a war widow named Amanda who gets angry at God, loses her faith, and is brought to her knees to restore her life. The movie is very clean and evangelical, with brief war violence and deep, insightful discussions about why bad things happen to good people.

  1. THE STAR

THE STAR is a wonderful, hilarious, deeply reverential animated family movie centered on the birth of Jesus, but from the perspective of a lowly donkey named Bo. THE STAR is tremendous fun, with great moral, spiritual lessons along the way. It’s a must-see Christmas movie for every family.

  1. GOD’S NOT DEAD: A LIGHT IN DARKNESS

GOD’S NOT DEAD: A LIGHT IN DARKNESS is the third installment in the GOD’S NOT DEAD movie series and follows Pastor Dave as he must fight to retain his church building from the school. GOD’S NOT DEAD: A LIGHT IN DARKNESS is well made, has great acting and exciting moments, with a strong, inspiring Christian message of responding to hate with the love of Jesus Christ.

  1. MY DADDY’S IN HEAVEN

MY DADDY’S IN HEAVEN is a Christian movie about how a young father’s tragic death destroys a family, leads his faithful wife into a prodigal lifestyle, and gives three generations of grieving people a chance to accept God’s relentless mercy. The movie’s strong Christian and biblical message is slightly offset by a “prodigal” narrative that features a full-blown hedonistic lifestyle of drinking, drugs and casual sex. These elements and a few uneven performances make MY DADDY’S IN HEAVEN an average but enjoyable and compelling Christian movie.

  1. SAMSON

SAMSON is a biblical drama about the man Samson, whom God gave supernatural strength to defeat the Philistines who harshly ruled over the Hebrew people in Israel. Though the production values falter at times, SAMSON has some exciting moments, with a very strong Christian, biblical worldview that honors the One True God of Israel. Caution is advised for some intense violence, however.
