SOUL ON FIRE, an inspirational story about real-life severe burn survivor, is set to release in theaters Oct. 10.

SOUL ON FIRE follows the miraculous story of John O’ Leary, who at 9 years old barely survived an explosion in his family’s home. O’Leary suffered severe burns and was given a 1% chance of survival but, despite all odds, recovered with the help of faith and his family. The movie is based off O’Leary’s 2016 book On Fire: The 7 Choices to Ignite a Radically Inspired Life.

“It’s a celebration of the everyday heroes who show up in our lives when we need them most as well as a love letter to the city where I was raised and where I live today,” O’Leary said in a statement about the movie. “My hope is that this film will inspire audiences to recognize the fire burning within them and to live with greater courage, passion, and purpose.”

William H. Macy, John Corbett and Joel Courtney will star in the film.

Courtney, who starred in Teddy Bear Award® winner JESUS REVOLUTION, took to Instagram to share his excitement for the movie.

“Incredibly excited to share this with you all! SOUL ON FIRE will be in theaters on October 10th through @sonypictures and @affirmfilms!!!” he began. “This story has changed my life and whole life perspective. I can’t wait for you all to see it so you too can have a glimpse into @johnoleary.inspires life. One of the most incredible, inspiring, and coolest people I’ve ever met and it was a HUGE honor to portray him in the telling of his story. Put it on your calendar October 10!!! People in the comment section expressed their excitement. “So excited about this project and your performance! Let’s gooooo❤️🔥🔥” one user said. Another person added, “we are SOOOOO excited! Let’s change some lives!🔥👏🙌❤️”

The film is directed by Sean McNamara and comes from Sony’s Affirm Films, a division of Sony which focuses on uplifting and faith-based content.

“I make movies about miracles. I believe in miracles. John O’Leary is a walking miracle,” McNamara said. “I’ve been blessed to film his extraordinary story that has inspired people to overcome extreme loss. While making SOUL ON FIRE I watched John speak to a group of ‘Wounded Warriors’ and was blown away at his speaking talents, and his ability to transform lives by telling them his amazing story detailed in his book, On Fire. I can’t wait to share with the world the story of John O’Leary’s miraculous life.”

Other Affirm films include FACING THE GIANTS and Teddy Bear Award® winners SOUL SURFER, FIREPROOF, COURAGEOUS and WAR ROOM.

The studio’s website states that they are “Dedicated to producing, acquiring, marketing and distributing films which inspire, uplift, and entertain audiences for over a decade. Sony Pictures launched AFFIRM Films in 2007 to meet the increasing demands from audiences looking for quality, mainstream films that reflect their spiritual beliefs and values.”

As movies and media often portray darkness, it is encouraging that movies such as SOUL OF FIRE continue to be created to bring light and hope to the film industry and encourage viewers along the way.
