Alec Baldwin’s Wife Just Took a Bold Pro-Life Stance After IVF

Hilaria Baldwin, the 41-year-old wife of actor Alec Baldwin, opened up about the pain of miscarriage.
“It was one of the lowest I’ve ever felt,” she said on a recent episode of THE BALDWINS. Her IVF pregnancy ended around the fourth or fifth month, which was devastating. “I didn’t know what I was going to do.”
Baldwin has had multiple miscarriages, and she explained that she didn’t want to “kill” any more of her embryos by attempting IVF again.
“When I had my miscarriages, I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know what the next steps were, and then I felt that it was important to open a door of possibilities,” she explained. “Then moving forward, I had this other embryo, and I was terrified of having an IVF baby again after the traumatic loss that I had, my fear was that if I put her inside of me, I was going to kill her.”
The Mayo Clinic describes IVF (in vitro fertilization) as when “mature eggs are collected from ovaries and fertilized by sperm in a lab. Then a procedure is done to place one or more of the fertilized eggs, called embryos, in a uterus, which is where babies develop.”

The Baldwins share seven children: Carmen Gabriela, 11, Rafael Thomas, 9, Leonardo Romeo Alejandro David, 8, Ángel Charles, 4, María Lucía Victoria, 4, and Eduardo “Edu” Pao Lucas, 4. Alec is also dad to 29-year-old daughter Ireland Baldwin from a previous marriage to Kim Basinger.
The couple loves having a large family.
They previously told PEOPLE, “We have ‘somos un buen equipo’ engraved on our wedding bands. We say that to each other all the time at home — that we’re a good team. One of the most beautiful things my children have experienced with a big family is how the heart can grow with every new sibling.”
The Baldwins recently shared how Alec’s involvement in the tragic RUST shooting impacted their family.
“Our lives are very, very different,” he said. “Our children have been forced to recognize that. They’ve been forced to deal with that, with us in their own way.”
