These Actors Met at Bible Study — You Have to Hear Their Sweet Love Story

Alexa and Carlos PenaVega have been married since 2014, and they have the sweetest love story that started with their faith.
“The SPY KIDS star and the Big Time Rush member were introduced by a mutual friend at a Bible study meeting in 2012. Instead of jumping into a relationship, they prioritized developing a friendship with their shared faith at the base of their connection,” PEOPLE reported.
Carlos and Alexa knew of each other before meeting.
“I had known of Alexa, but she was just ‘that chick from SPY KIDS.’ She had no idea who I was though, and when we first met, I was completely smitten. I became so nervous I actually started quoting SPY KIDS, which did not work because she told our mutual friend I was so weird,” Carlos admitted.
“It was our mutual friend, Andrew, who invited us,” Alexa added. “I’ve known him since I was 13 years old, and Carlos has known him since he was 18, and all this time, Andrew would tell us that we were very compatible. He would always say things like, ‘You have to meet. You two just have to meet,’ but the timing never worked out. We were either in other relationships or just not ready to date at all.”
“So, Andrew had invited me to his Bible study quite a few times,” she continued. “It was a Bible study at his house that he led, and just this one particular time, I decided, ‘You know what? I’ll go check it out,’ and this is after a couple years of him having this Bible study that I finally decided to go. It just so happened to be the night Carlos showed up as well.”
“She wanted to be friends first, friends second, friends third, and friends fourth. But I was persistent, and church was really the basis of our relationship,” Carlos told The War Cry in 2020. “She would pick me up and we’d go to church together, and that is kind of how we started our whole relationship.”
Despite their busy Hollywood schedules, they would make sure they still had time with one another.

“Bible study and church were two things that were very important to both of us and that really paved the way for us in the starting point of our relationship,” Alexa revealed. “We instantly became inseparable. I actually remember this moment, we were walking into a mall and there was this lady coming through the door, but Carlos and I were holding hands. I went to let go of his hand to let her through and he squeezed my hand harder and he said, ‘Sorry ma’am, we are inseparable!’ It was so funny because it was true. I would go to his set and spend time with him there. If I had to fly out for a shoot, he would fly in and visit me. We made that time for one another pretty effortlessly.”
Now the couple share three children — Ocean, Kingston and Rio — and even work on projects together. They star in Great American Family’s GET HIM BACK FOR CHRISTMAS, which will premiere on Dec. 21.
“GET HIM BACK FOR CHRISTMAS (previously known as LOVE AT THE KETTLE), starring Alexa PenaVega and Carlos PenaVega. Special appearance by the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Mario Lopez, Victoria Jackson, and Natasha Bure. Bella made it big in music. Jack stayed behind in his hometown working at The Salvation Army to help his family after his dad passed,” a synopsis of the movie reads. “Bella returns home after a heartbreaking split with her chart-topping singing partner and asks Jack to write the perfect song to get her boyfriend back. Carlos PenaVega wrote and performs an original song, ‘Get Him Back for Christmas’ performed for the film at AT&T Stadium.”
