Country Star Reflects on How God Used Brother’s Death to Spread Hope

Christian and country artist Anne Wilson says it’s “bittersweet” to share memories of her late brother onstage but knows his death was part of God’s plan for her.
“You know, night after night, I share my brother on stage, which can be really hard,” she said in a recent episode of her “Rebel In The Making” series on YouTube. “I share the testimony of what God’s done and the loss of my brother. You know, I want to share it so that it can bring hope to people and inspiration to people, but sometimes it’s hard.”
Wilson continued, “I think at the beginning, when I first started sharing about him three years ago, I had to talk to my counselor about, ‘How do I talk about my brother every single night like this and not let it affect me?’ And so, I’ve learned how to kind of place it to the side and talk about him in a way that, like, I don’t really have to face it, if that makes sense.”
The singer pointed to the first night of her My Jesus Tour as one of those nights when it really “hit” her.
“We were in Texas and I just — I remember having this moment of realizing, like, I would not be on this stage if it wasn’t for the loss of my brother, and like, having a bittersweet moment of missing him so much, but also: look what God’s done in my life through the loss of him,” Wilson explained.
She posted about the episode on Instagram, writing, “I would trade everything to have my brother Jacob back. Each show I play, I share about the loss of my brother in hopes that it would bring hope to others walking through similar kinds of loss. Sometimes it’s really difficult, but I love getting to hear stories of how my music has helped people.”
Wilson often talks about her brother’s death and how it impacted her decision to pursue music.
“I had all these dreams and hopes and visions of what my future would look like, and it was nothing to do with music,” she explained in a video posted to social media. “And when Jacob was killed, my life changed drastically,” she said. “I began to see what it means to live a life that honors and glorifies God. What it means to use my time on Earth for the kingdom of God, to grow it further and further for His glory.”
