Blake Shelton Hints About THE VOICE Return
By Movieguide® Contributor
Blake Shelton might be having second thoughts about leaving THE VOICE.
After 23 seasons and nine wins, the country star decided to call it quits. But now, after some time away, he realizes how much he misses THE VOICE.
“I miss the people. I mean, those people became like family to me, literally from the crew all up to the producers of the show. I was with them more than I was with my family…I miss that,” he told Entertainment Tonight.
However, Shelton doesn’t miss “the job at all.”
“I totally needed a break from that, because if I wasn’t into it, then it wasn’t good for whoever was on my team. I don’t want to be someone who’s just going through the motions. Those artists need somebody fighting for them,” he explained. “The second I started feeling like, ‘Oh my gosh, I don’t even remember what season this is anymore. Who are the coaches on this season?’ [I knew that] I needed [to get] away from here.”
Even though he misses the show, he knows that “every day feels a little bit better.”
“I feel better about that decision,” Shelton admitted.
He didn’t rule out the possibility of returning to THE VOICE, but there is only one reason why he would.
“If they were ever able to put together the original four coaches [Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green] again, maybe [I’d return] for one season, a one-off,” he said. “That would be fun for me…That would be something I would be interested in doing.”
Now, Shelton enjoys spending time on his farm with his wife, Gwen Stefani, whom he met on the show.
He’s stepdad to Stefani’s three sons, Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 10, and says they’ve changed him “in every possible way.”
“They’ve taught me something about myself that I never knew: I’m more than just a country singer or a goofy guy,” he said of being a stepdad. “I’m someone they actually lean on, and that’s not a responsibility that I ever had and not something that I ever considered even being into.”

Shelton and Stefani met while both serving as coaches on THE VOICE. They began dating in 2015 and tied the knot in 2021.
“I didn’t see any of this coming with Blake. This was just a big old ‘What?’” Stefani said of their relationship. “When I met Blake, that’s when I felt home. Like, ‘Oh, this is where I’m supposed to be, with this guy.’ It’s so true, and it was so automatic. This is such an amazing gift to experience love like that for the first time…He changed my life.”
Family is very important to both of the singers. Shelton is stepdad to Stefani’s three sons, Kingston, Zuma and Apollo.
“That’s a scary moment for me because it’s one thing for me to be with the kids all the time and be their buddy, but you do have to consider after a while that they start to listen to things that you say. There’s a lot of responsibility that comes with that,” Shelton said of his step-sons.
