Motorsports Star Brian Deegan Found Christ After Near-Death Accident

While action sports always pose a risk of accidents, multi-time X Games gold medalist Brian Deegan shared how a life-or-death situation led him to Christ.

“I did a backflip in the wind. I shouldn’t have done it, but I crashed, and the handlebar went in my stomach and blew up my kidney and my spleen,” Deegan said on the “Swapmoto Live” podcast. “It took almost an hour to get to the hospital with my artery ripped off my kidney.”

“I remember dying on the way, like fighting dying,” he recalled. “Chewing my tongue and falling asleep. The doctor was leaning over me and said, ‘Hey, is there anything you want to tell your family? We’re going to go in. You have a very light pulse. We’re going to see what we can do. Is there anything you want to tell your family?”

He continued, “I was like, ‘No way. This is it.’ I was barely hanging on when I went into surgery, but I kept thinking of my wife, my kid, Hailee, was 3. So, I went under and sort of remember just praying, ‘Please God, if you’re real, I’m done being bad. I’m changing. I’ll follow you, and I’ll become a Christian. I will change my life. I want to live.’ It took that for me to make the step.”

Since then, Deegan has strengthened his relationship with God, frequently opening up about his faith on Instagram.

In a recent post, he reminded his followers what Christmas is truly about.

“It’s important time of the year to get the family together for us with all our lives going wide-open. And focus on the reason for Christmas John 3:16,” he posted.

Deegan also shared a video of his family attending a Christmas service and praying together before their meal.

“Always happy to have the family together. Christmas seems to come so fast each year. Good to start and finish in the house of God,” he wrote.

Movieguide® previously reported on the Deegan family:

In a recent family photo shared on Instagram, Deegan wrote, “A lot of memories in this room. A lot of highs and lows. A lot of good decisions and not so good. But that’s what makes it interesting. Proud of this pack. The gift of family. Fight for it. Psalm 127:3-52”

Psalm 127:3-5 reads, “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him. Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them! He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.”
