Why Candace Cameron Bure Stars in Christmas Movies: ‘Heartwarming’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Candace Cameron Bure shared why she loves Christmas and making movies centered around the holiday season.
“Christmas to me…[is] a beautiful, heartwarming time of the year,” she told CBN News. “And everyone is usually a little kinder, a little more generous, a little more loving, and those are very welcoming, and [these are] easy things for me to just grab onto and want to share that experience with more people.”
“So, filming the Christmas movies any time of the year just makes me feel all those feelings, so it’s easy to get into the season,” she added.
Along with themes of kindness and generosity, Christmas movies allow Bure to share her faith. Last year, she starred in the Movieguide® Award winner A CHRISTMAS…PRESENT.
“The biggest theme that is most important to me in this film is the theme of God in our lives and the Christian faith,” Bure explained. “This is a Christmas movie that actually talks about Christ. And that’s another major theme that I have that I’ve never been able to talk about at length in my Christmas films.”
Previously known for her Hallmark Christmas movies, the actress has since moved to the Great American Family network to share more purposeful stories.
“My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them,” Bure said. “I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment.”
She’s continuing her commitment to value-focused content through her new kids’ book club.
“I am thrilled to be a part of the Generous Family and the Generous Kids Book Club because, like you, reading to my kids was my favorite thing,” Bure shared with The Christian Post. “I found such a way of bonding with them and entertaining them, giving them life lessons that we could read together and talk about together.”
But what Bure loves about these books is that they aren’t just silly stories.
“What I love about the Generous Family and the Generous Kids Book Club is that these are all value-based books,” she said.
“And then each lesson that you get or each book that you get teaches a lesson,” she added. “And those lessons are things like giving and generosity and compassion and empathy and positivity and joyfulness.”
“I hope my audience knows that they can trust what I get behind,” Bure expressed. “I’ve been a faithful follower of Jesus Christ my whole life, well since I was twelve. And I don’t just put my name behind anything or put my name on anything. It’s something that I truly love and believe in and the good work that it does.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Bure’s book club:
While nothing can replace the Bible, Bure wanted to make teaching biblical principles a little easier, so she launched The Generous Kids Book Club, a monthly subscription providing parents with books and e-books that promote Christian values.
“Reading to my kids, particularly when they were younger, it was my favorite thing to do with them,” Bure explained. “I love books. They’re a great way to teach lessons but also hear what your kids are thinking about, and it invites conversations.”
She told Us Weekly that the books featured for the club promote “values like giving and thoughtfulness and generosity and empathy and compassion. I mean really wonderful things that not only kids need to be reminded of, but we need to be reminded of, too.”
