Carrie Underwood Has a ‘Problem’ With Being an AMERICAN IDOL Judge
By Movieguide® Contributor
Country singing legend Carrie Underwood has a problem with her new role as an AMERICAN IDOL judge — she “can’t lie” to save her life.
“I do have a big problem…I can’t lie,” she said about being a judge on the singing show ahead of her first appearance. “I feel like I’ll be very honest but hopefully constructive and encouraging. Just ask my kids.”
Movieguide® reported last week:
Carrie Underwood is returning to AMERICAN IDOL — but this time, as a judge!
“Carrie Underwood is the first AMERICAN IDOL alum ever to join the judging panel,” executive producer and showrunner Megan Wolflick said of the decision. “Her global superstar status as the most successful IDOL winner to date makes her a perfect fit for the show.”
She continued, “She embodies the true spirit of IDOL as she herself is the definition of the Cinderella story. Our future hopefuls will have the chance to receive advice from someone who has walked in their exact footsteps every step of the way. Carrie has always been a strong supporter of IDOL, and I’m thrilled for her to be reunited with our IDOL family.”
Underwood won AMERICAN IDOL in the competition’s fourth season in 2005.
“It feels like home,” Underwood said on GOOD MORNING AMERICA. “There are so many people that even still work on the show that were there when I was a contestant. I feel like being on both sides of the coin, I’ll be able to hopefully offer some insight, and help.”
“I went from nobody knowing my name to tens of millions of people watching the show,” she said in a video announcing her role. “I’m proud of everything I was able to accomplish on the show, and I’m so proud of everything I’ve accomplished since.”
Underwood joins judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, while Ryan Seacrest will return as IDOL’s host.
Seacrest welcomed Underwood to show on his Instagram, saying, “It’s a full-circle moment to go from announcing you as the winner of @americanidol 20 years ago to now welcoming you to the judge’s table. Welcome home, @carrieunderwood !”
Underwood replied, “Thank you Ryan! Excited to be coming back home! ❤️”
Auditions for the competition begin Aug. 12.
