CeCe Winans Shares ‘Biggest Lesson’ from Mom: ‘Live a Life That Speaks Louder Than Words’

Christian singer and songwriter CeCe Winans and her mom Delores Winans talked about motherhood on “Women of Faith on TBN.”
“I’m asked the question what is one of the biggest lessons you’ve taught me, you know, and that’s kind of a hard question to answer,” CeCe began. “But I was thinking about it the other day, and I think the biggest lesson you’ve taught me is to is to live a life that speaks louder than words. You know, when I look at the peace that you carry, the calm that you carry even in the roughest of times, that speaks volumes. So, I would say the best lesson that you’ve taught me is to live a life that speaks louder than words.”
CeCe mentioned that she was the first girl after seven older brothers and asked her mother what raising her was like.
“You were just a breeze after having seven rambunctious wrestling boys,” Delores said. “You were just easy to raise.”
She asked her mom, “What advice would you give other mothers, you know even now, facing what we’re facing?”
“Love God and teach your children how to love the Lord,” Delores responded. “Put God first and learn to love one another. It has worked, and even in times like this, it works even better. To know that God is on your side and whatever happens you’re going to come out all right.”
CeCe’s love of family and music started at a young age.
“CeCe Winans, born Priscilla Marie, was one of 10 Winans children, and their parents dedicated themselves to nurturing the musical gifts of their progeny at family concerts and their Holiness-Pentecostal church,” NPR reported.
“At her parents’ insistence, CeCe sang her first solo at age 8. ‘I was crying in the middle of it,’ she recalled. ‘It was called “Fill My Cup, Lord.” And my parents were like, “OK, you’ll do better next time.”…They saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself.'”
She’s since gone on to become “The best-selling and most-awarded female gospel artist of all time,” winning 15 Grammy Awards.

Gospel artist CeCe Winans and her mom Delores Winans are teaming up to share how God acts on his children’s prayers and faithfulness.
“God is faithful. God will be faithful to you, so fall in love with him,” CeCe told viewers in a recent PRAISE ON TBN episode.
“Prayer is the top priority,” Delores added. “Okay, years ago when I first got saved — about 65 years ago — that’s what they taught us. That we had to pray to learn to [talk] to God.”
At first, Delores felt hesitant to pray publicly, but then she discovered that prayer isn’t about formalities. It’s simply a conversation with God.
“They would call on me to lead prayer. I said. ‘Don’t call on me. You know, I don’t know what to say,’ but I’m glad God taught me that it was easy to talk to him,” she said.
