Chip and Joanna Gaines: FIXER UPPER Reboot Is Like FIXER 2.0

One of our favorite TV couples is ready to shake off that construction dust and get back to demo days.
“Getting back on camera, it was like, ‘What? Where do we look? What do we do?'” Joanna Gaines explained of their FIXER UPPER reboot. “But I think we’re starting to get the hang of it. It feels kind of like we dusted off our boots and this is FIXER 2.0.”
She and her husband, Chip, will revive the beloved TV show for their Magnolia network, set to debut sometime next year. The original program ran for five years on HGTV until 2019.
Movieguide previously reported that while the Gaines were ready for a break in 2018, the reboot was always on their mind:
The new season will air exclusively on the Gaines’ new cable network, Magnolia—a joint venture with the Discovery Channel’s DIY Network, which will receive a rebranding. The Gaines’ production company, Blind Nil, will produce the new series.
“The day we wrapped our final episode of FIXER UPPER, we really believed it was a chapter closed,” Chip and Joanna said. “We knew we needed a break and a moment to catch our breath. But we also knew we weren’t done dreaming about ways to make old things new again.”
The Gaines announced the reboot in August.
“These past few years, we’ve continued tackling renovations and projects, doing the work we’re passionate about, but I don’t think either of us anticipated how the show would become such a permanent fixture in our hearts. We’ve missed sharing the stories of these families and their homes with you, and we’re excited to do that again very soon!” the couple said in a statement.
When the series first launched, the couple had four young children. They’ve since welcomed another son, Crew.
“We want to be smart when it comes to our kids,” Joanna said. “When we first started the show, they were younger, and since they’re a part of so much of what we do, it was just organic to include them.”
Joanna continued: “But toward the end, I started noticing, they don’t necessarily love this. Now, if they volunteer to be a part, we are more than happy, but we never want to just force it for a scene. They can make that choice. We’ll see as much of the kids as they want to give us.”
The new season of FIXER UPPER will premiere on the Magnolia Network along with 14 original programs also in production, including GROWING FLORETS.
