Creek Stewart may teach others how to live in the wilderness on his TV shows, but the survivalist almost didn’t survive real life until he called out to God.
“I’ll never forget at the pinnacle of my career, I was on the TODAY SHOW being interviewed by Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda. And if you would’ve watched that show, you would’ve watched me on TV and you would’ve said, ‘Man, there is a guy that’s got everything. He’s got a hit television show, numerous bestselling books, a thriving business…'” he told CBN News of his story.
Little did the thousands of people watching Stewart know that his home life at the time was a mess.
“All I was thinking about during that interview were the divorce papers on the kitchen table at home and the fact that I wasn’t living with my wife and my newborn son,” he revealed. “And I’ll never forget going home and realizing that I have to take my own advice as a wilderness survival instructor: that if you’re lost in the wilderness, you have to admit you’re lost.”

Thankfully, in his brokenness, God reached out to Stewart and changed his life.
“He rescued me from where I was, I repented of my sins, and He restored my marriage. And He was very clear: ‘I want you to still teach wilderness survival skills, but I want you to do it in a way that honors Me and that brings glory to Me,” Stewart said.
He explained how he hopes that people now encounter God through his new show GOD IN THE WILD.
“I believe that people of faith who already know Jesus, when they see someone in the trenches digging into their faith and just not giving up on the Lord that their faith will be increased,” he said. “But I also believe because it’s a wilderness survival show, that people will watch this show who may never shadow the door of a church. At the end of the day, God is the hero of every story that we will feature on the show, but He’s the one character that we can’t script. But He always shows up.”
Today, Stewart uses his platform not only to teach survival skills but also to encourage others to connect with God through nature.
In a post to Instagram recently, he asked, “Ever notice how silence reveals what noise usually hides?”
“We say ‘God, speak louder.’ He says, ‘Come closer,’” he added in the caption.
Stewart’s story reminds us that God doesn’t want us to do life alone; He wants us to come close to Him, as James 4:8 says: “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”
