Pop star Daddy Yankee recently shared the gospel with incarcerated men in Louisiana, encouraging them to change their lives and accept the Lord into their hearts.
“If any of you want to accept the Lord in your life and make a change in your life — a new mentality, a new beginning — the day is today,” the artist, whose real name is Raymond Ayala, said in an Instagram video of his sermon at Angola Prison. “This day was prepared by the Lord for you.”
The caption of the video reads, “Daddy Yankee leads DOZENS of incarcerated men to Jesus inside of Angola Prison in Louisiana! This moment was truly a miracle! After Daddy Yankee’s sermon, he asked if anyone wanted to give their life to Jesus… DOZENS of men raised their hands — many are serving life in prison!”

Ayala has been vocal about his Christian faith and his desire to make “music with a purpose,” as he told Billboard in a 2025 interview.
“Having a life of success is different from having a life of purpose,” he explained. “Before, my interest was transforming the industry [through music], and that purpose had to do more with business and money, influence, success. Now my purpose is to transform lives with that same instrument. They’re very different purposes.”
Ayala continued, “Everyone who’s inside the faith has to go to the world and preach the gospel. I can’t simply convert and stay silent, you know? This isn’t simply making Christian music; the challenge is to make the kingdom part of pop culture. My vision [in the past] was to transform the industry when they told me I couldn’t. Now I’m in the same situation with a different purpose: revolutionize and reinvent.”
The artist has made his faith the focus of his music, telling the crowd at a Q&A for Billboard’s Latin Music Week that he feels “reborn, reenergized and truly joyful” about his work now.
“Each person has a different purpose and design. Everyone has a purpose to fulfill in their lives, and mine was this path: to forefront popular culture, announcing the Kingdom — that’s a challenge. My father is so strategic that He’s calling many people,” Ayala said.
He added, “I’m still under construction. I’m far from perfect. I’m vulnerable, I have weaknesses, I’m going to make mistakes, but I know my faith is in the Lord, and that He’s in control of that.”
With Ayala’s recent visit to Angola Prison, the artist is walking in his faith and helping others pursue a relationship with the Lord.
