Danica McKellar’s New Christmas Perspective: ‘Pause and Reflect’
By Movieguide® Contributor
As a new Christian, actress Danica McKellar hopes to slow down this Christmas and savor what this season now means to her.
She hopped on Great American Community to share her new Christmas perspective in a quick video.
“I’m on a relatively new faith journey, so there is a whole new layer for me about the meaning of Christmas and what it means to me,” THE WONDER YEARS actress said. “And so celebrating the birth of Christ and everything that has meant to humanity and what it means to me now, it’s huge and it’s beautiful, and I love that that gets to be wrapped up into what was already my favorite holiday.”
Movieguide® previously reported on how McKellar found her faith:
“It all started one evening when I was struggling with the idea of forgiveness and DM’d my good friend @candacecbure about a passage from the Bible she had read on her instastories, and then she sent me a Bible, and invited me to church,” she wrote…
“Candace, I don’t want to brush over the huge, huge impact that you’ve had on my life this year,” McKellar started. “I don’t even know how to call that, like, friendship. It’s more than that. Because of you helping me to find my relationship with God and Jesus, it’s been like a revolution in my life. It’s been a revelation in my life.”
She continued, “You gave me this Bible that I read all the time and I love it so much and I go to church now and I just, I talk to Jesus all the time every day. It’s unbelievable. And you were like my guide. You were just an angel in my life and you still are. And I just wanna thank you for that publicly.”
“One of the things that as I’ve gotten older I’ve realized is so important about this end of the year Christmas time is that it gives us an opportunity to pause and reflect on the year and think about the new year coming up,” she said.
But most people don’t do this. They get so absorbed in the commotion of Christmas that they don’t take a minute to hit the pause button.
“The ironic part is that I feel like so many of us get so busy with the Christmas season and all the things are happening, whether it’s travel, shopping, just Christmas shopping, and wrapping presents and all the extra cooking, the people coming over, and all the things that are going on, which are all wonderful, but they can be so much,” McKellar continued. “And sometimes there’s actually conflict in there too…Like some family members don’t get along and there’s just a lot going on.
“And it’s just ironic that that is all happening in a time when it’s really important to pause, reflect. And this year, I’m gonna…make a bigger effort to take that pause. And I hope that you will too,” she told viewers. “And I think what it means is lots of micro pauses.”
“I remember when I got married I got some really good advice, which was, take moments where you look around, and if it’s your wedding you say, ‘I’m at my wedding right now…I’m gonna take a visual—like mental—snapshot of it.’
McKellar loves to sit and wrap presents by the tree with a Christmas movie on the TV. She doesn’t want to take even the simplest moments like this for granted.
“And of course, with your kids as they’re getting older or grandkids or whoever, [take] a mental snapshot right now of this moment,” the actress shared. “So I hope you’ll join me taking those pauses, little pauses, so that whatever Christmas means to you, you can take a moment to absorb it that much more.”
McKellar recently starred in a Great American Christmas romance movie, A ROYAL DATE FOR CHRISTMAS. In it, she plays a clothing shop owner who encounters a tough client who turns out to be of noble blood.
The actress chatted with Fox News about the movie on Monday.
She said, “It’s just such a beautiful story of two hearts healing each other and it’s just swoon-worthy — so romantic!”
