Colorado Buffalos head coach Deion Sanders prayed for the family and friends of team quarterback Dominiq Ponder, who tragically died in a car crash Sunday morning.
“God, please comfort the Ponder family, friends, & Loved ones. Dom was one of my favorites! He was Loved, Respected & a Born Leader. Let’s pray for all who knew him & had the opportunity to be in his presence. Lord, you’re receiving a good 1. Comfort us, Lord. Comfort us,” Sanders posted on X late Sunday evening.

Ponder died in a single-car crash on early Sunday morning. The 23-year-old was “driving a 2023 Tesla Model 3, lost control on a curve, and the car went across the eastbound lane, striking a guardrail and then an electrical line pole, before rolling down an embankment and catching on fire,” ESPN reported.
Ponder’s teammate, Colton Allen, took to social media to honor his late friend, teammate and brother in Christ.
“We spend so much time stressing about stuff that feels huge in the moment, but honestly doesn’t matter. Life. Money. Opinions. None of that feels important right now. Life is such a blessing from God, but it’s also so short and fragile. You don’t really understand that until something like this happens,” Ponder’s fellow quarterback wrote on Instagram.
“Dom, you were a blessing to so many people. You had a presence about you that just made everything better,” he continued. “You brought so much joy to me and everyone around you. I’m grateful for every lift, every practice, every rep, every conversation we got to share. I’ll carry those with me for the rest of my life.”
“What happened feels so final. It feels heavy. It hurts. But I know God promises eternal life through faith in Him, and that’s the only thing giving peace right now. This isn’t the end of your story,” he added. “I love you, brother. Thank you for everything. Until we meet again.”
Allen concluded his post with John 11:25-26, which reads, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”
Pray for the entire Colorado football team, as well as Ponder’s family and friends, as they grieve this tragic loss.
