Since its agreement with Max has turned out to be successful, Disney is looking to strike some more bundle deals.

“The Disney+, Hulu and Max bundle, echoing the glory days of cable television, was inked in May and launched two months later in the U.S for as little as $16.99 a month,” Deadline reported Sept. 17.

Movieguide® reported on the bundle in May:

“On the heels of the very successful launch of Hulu on Disney+, this new bundle with Max will offer subscribers even more choice and value,” said Joe Earley, the president of direct-to-consumer for Disney. “This incredible new partnership puts subscribers first, giving them access to blockbuster films, originals, and three massive libraries featuring the very best brands and entertainment in streaming today.”

“This new offering delivers for consumers the greatest collection of entertainment for the best value in streaming, and will help drive incremental subscribers and much stronger retention,” said JB Perrette, CEO and President, Global Streaming and Games, Warner Bros. Discovery.

Deadline said, “Nami Patel, Disney’s senior vice president of strategy and business development, told the RTS London Convention that the agreement is ‘working really well.’”

The Streamable noted the bundle provides a 38% markdown. Though that’s a steep discount, it’s worth it to the companies because it helps retain customers.

Mickey Blog reported, “The first-of-its-kind offer shook up the streaming industry and provided a new way for Disney and Max to compete with Netflix and Amazon Prime.”

Patel says the deal has kept subscriber numbers more consistent, and viewers have spent more time on the platform. Per Patel, future deals will be viewed case-by-case, but Disney is open to options.

Warner Bros. Discovery’s (which owns Max) CEO, David Zasliv said Max is slated to add 6m subscribers in the current quarter. It’s already added 3.6m in Apr., May in June. Some of those numbers are due to the bundle.

“Partnerships will always be a key benefit to consumers, and I think we’ll see more and more of that,” Patel said, adding that bundles are a “great alternative.”
