Dolly Parton Frustrated By Culture’s Rejection of God in New Song

By Movieguide® Contributor

Dolly Parton recently shared her frustration with how the world has lost sight of God and no longer looks to scripture for guidance in her song “World on Fire,” featured on her upcoming album “Rockstar.”

She sings: “I don’t know what to think about out / When did we lose ‘In God We Trust?’ / God Almighty, what we gonna do? / If God ain’t listening and we’re deaf, too?”

“Don’t get me started on politics / Now how are we to live in a world like this / Greedy politician, present and past… Now tell me what is truth? / Have we all lost sight / Of common decency / Of wrong and right? / How do we heal this great divide? / Do we care enough to try?” the song continues.

Through the lyrics, Parton expresses her anger that people have stopped listening to God and what has become of the world because of that.

“This was important, [but] it wasn’t political at all,” she told TalkShopLive’s Nancy O’Dell. “Though I did say greedy politicians, but this is all over the world…We are not paying attention. We are just letting the world burn down around us with all the greed and hate. And it was all bottled up in me, and I needed to say something because I felt like I should.”

“I don’t lose my temper, but I use my temper,” Parton continued. “Of course, I’ve lost it a few times, but it’s not that I’m losing my temper, I’m trying to use it because sometimes there are just some people you have to speak up to. Because it they don’t know, especially as a shock, for somebody like me to raise my voice to people, that’s not what they’re used to.”

“World on Fire” isn’t the first time Parton has shared her faith through her music. Recently, she has felt called to include God more in her songs.

In last year’s “Go to Hell,” Parton rebuked the devil’s hold over much of society’s current beliefs, as CBN reported.

“Take your wars and your politics, your lust, and your greed, and go to hell in a handbasket, ‘cause heaven waits for me,” she sang. “You’re a cheat, you’re a liar, you’re a scoundrel and a thief.”

The singer attributes her continued success to God’s guiding hand. As she nears her late 70s, Parton confesses that her faith drives her to keep going.

“My faith impacts everything that I do because I do believe that, through God, all things are possible,” Parton told Fox News Digital. “And so I always ask God to bless everything that I do and the people that I work with and to bring all the right things and right people into my life and to take the wrong ones out.”

“I just think that my spirituality has been a guiding light in my life and my strength, really, in my creative energy. And my spiritual energy has really been a great force to keep me going all these years and still being productive,” she added.

Despite her 77-years of age, country legend Dolly Parton hopes to continue to perform and work on new projects for many years to come.

“I would never retire. I’ll just hopefully drop dead in the middle of a song on stage someday, and hopefully one I’ve written,” Parton told radio host, Ken Bruce. “That’s how I hope to go. Of course, we don’t have much of a choice in that.”

While she never wants to retire, Parton later shared the three reasons she would give up her country music career.
