Former NFL quarterback Drew Brees shared a heartfelt “helmet note” he wrote to his son, Bowen, before his championship football game.
“One of my mentors @todddurkin told me about the ‘helmet notes’ his dad used to leave for him in his helmet before games,” Brees wrote in the caption on his social media. “and how he has carried on the tradition to his kids. I am now doing the same! I had tears in my eyes as I wrote this note to Bowen before his Pop Warner Championship game today.”
The note to his son reads:
Bowen,
I want you to know how proud I am of you! You have dedicated yourself to being the best you can be this fall. You have battled through injjry and have sacrificed a lot of time. You didn’t always love what you were being asked to do, but you pushed through and did it anyways. That is discipline and toughness! Some of the happiest moments in my life are watching you play! I love the way you break the huddle and sprint to the ball to get lined up. Your attitude, poise, and confidence are contagious. Be the best you can be today! Do your best, have fun, never quit! I’m so proud to be your dad.”

Til the very end, I exhausted myself to give everything I had to the Saints organization, my team, and the great city of New Orleans.”
Now he’s turned his attention to supporting safety in youth football.
“Excited for the opportunity to support youth football!🏈 It’s all about promoting athlete safety and giving back to the sport we love,” Brees said in a recent Instagram post. “Guardian Caps are the leading, impact reducing soft-shell cover worn by over 500,000+ athletes.
