Emily Maynard Johnson Celebrates ‘Angel Baby’ Jones’ First Birthday

Emily Maynard Johnson is celebrating “angel baby” Jones’ first birthday.
“My angel baby is 1 today,” she wrote on her Instagram story, along with a reposted picture from her husband Tyler. “What a year it has been.”
The photo both parents shared was from a recent hospital stay for Jones, who was born with Down syndrome and a congenital colon issue.
Johnson reassured fans that everything was “going to better than all right” in an Instagram post.
“I took Jones to the ER because of what I thought was a stomach bug, but it turns out he had some scar tissue built up from his last surgery and needed to have surgery again to fix the problem,” she wrote. “Thankful for all of the nurses, doctors and surgeons at @levinechildrens for loving on my sweet boy so well.”
Johnson continued, “My angel Jones is home and hasn’t stopped smiling since. @mtylerjohnson you’re the best dad and I’m so thankful Jones gets to be loved by you.”
She recently celebrated Jones in an Instagram post, writing, “I’m so happy I didn’t stop at five. I love you all the way to heaven Jones West.”

Emily confessed that the diagnosis came as a surprise to her and her husband.
“It was not on my radar at all. And I refused to believe it,” she said. “I just wanted to hold him and for everything to be okay.”
However, doctors kept Jones in the NICU for several weeks before he was allowed to go home.
“I was just grieving all of it and that the experience was so different from what I had expected. Waking up the next morning hearing all the babies crying down the hallway while I was in the room alone, it hurt so much,” she said.
“I realized this could be so much worse,” she continued. “This is nothing. This is joyful. Everybody that I’ve heard from shares how much love they have in their hearts.”
“He has the sweetest little smile and I’m just so excited. He’s so cute and he’s the easiest baby,” she added. “I just know God is going to see so much good through this sweet baby. Especially because we weren’t planning on having a sixth kid, but with Jones, our family is complete.”
