Pro golfer Gary Woodland announced he will undergo surgery later this month to remove a lesion on his brain.

“I wanted to share a recent health development with you,” Woodland posted on X, formerly Twitter, on August 30.

“On Sept. 18th, I’ll be having surgery to remove a lesion found on my brain. I was diagnosed a few months ago and have been trying to treat symptoms with medication. After consulting with multiple specialists and discussing with my family, we’ve made the decision that surgery to remove the lesion is the best course of action,” he explained.

“I’m in good spirits with my family and team by my side and so thankful for the love and support of everyone,” he added.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, brain lesions are areas of damaged brain tissue that can be caused by various circumstances, such as genetic conditions, infections or concussions.

“Lesions can disrupt the way your brain works, causing a wide range of symptoms, such as weakness, disruptions of one or more senses and confusion,” the Clinic explains.

The intensity of the medical response to brain lesions is based on the condition that caused them. Some brain lesions require no treatment and will heal on their own. Others can be treated with medicine or removed through surgery, while some are untreatable, causing conditions that cannot be cured.

“Woodland has four victories in his PGA career, with the most recent one coming at the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. He was also part of the winning U.S. Ryder Cup team in 2019,” NBC Bay Area reports.

Woodland and his wife Gabby share three children.

Please pray for Woodland’s full recovery as he undergoes this brain surgery.
