How THE CHOSEN Plans to Expand Reach to 1 Billion People
By Movieguide® Contributor
Since Lionsgate acquired the distribution rights of the Angel Studios show THE CHOSEN, the franchise announced its plan to reach one billion people.
The president and executive producer of the show, Brad Pelo told The Christian Post in an interview, “Lionsgate, as most people know is a Hollywood studio. And we were blessed in the early days to be represented by Angel Studios who kind of got the crowdfunding going and the initial support of the show.”
“We’ve kind of outgrown Angel Studios at this point and so we now have a new partner in Lionsgate, who will be our worldwide distributor of the show,” Pelo added.
Pelo even went on to say, “The show will start appearing on new platforms, broadcast outlets, and even though you’ll still be able to watch the show for free in ‘The Chosen’ app, you will be able to see it on many of your favorite places to watch television.”
Movieguide® recently reported on THE CHOSEN’s partnership with Lionsgate:
Dallas Jenkins, the series writer, producer, and director told CBN’s Faithwire, “Lionsgate is perfect for us,”
He added, “They’re strong and experienced in the areas we’re not, but they also understand what’s unique about us and will protect that. We’ll continue to do what we do best unabated, and they’ll expand our efforts with their tremendous distribution team.”
President of worldwide television distribution for Lionsgate, Jim Packer stated, “no surprise that an artfully crafted story about such an important historical figure, unlike anything done before, would be in great demand.”
Packer added, “The multi-season approach has allowed ‘The Chosen’ to consistently build its audience and generate a unique level of engagement. We’re excited by the opportunity to elevate this incredible property to the next level of worldwide recognition and popularity.”
Since the beginning of THE CHOSEN, the series has been streamed more than 500 million times and has totaled a whopping $35 million in box office revenue.
Jenkins said to CBN’s Faithwire that God has been “very clear” that the success of the series is all from Him.
“God has just so clearly from the beginning brought people to the show — cast, crew — who were compelled to do it even when they might not have wanted to,” Jenkins explained. “There’s just so many people involved the show who God was putting it on their hearts.”
