Christians musicians Kelly and Jimmy Needham shared how they work to redeem Halloween through king size candy bars and Gospel signs and prayer.
“If you followed us for a while, you know we love to leverage Halloween to reach our community with the Gospel. While not every Christian will land in the same place on this, we have seen great fruit from our efforts,” the couple wrote in a joint Instagram post. “We try our best to be ‘the generous house,’ handing out King size candy and hot chocolate. We offer to pray with people and pray over every prayer request that night!”
“We’ve watched people trust Jesus for the first time on our front lawn, have seen hundreds of prayers answered. And been able to share the Gospel with children in our community for over 10 years now!” the couple continued. “This year, with the help from out church community, we are expecting to reach 1,500 people!”

This effort from the Needham’s comes as many Christians have become more skeptical of the holiday in recent years. Many people who were former members of the occult and are now Christian have taken to social media to share how the devil the uses that night for evil. While some Christians are calling to boycott the holiday entirely to spoil demonic forces, others like the Needhams are working to bring Jesus to the night and redeem the evil day.
“The first form of Trick or Treat, Samhain, assembled souls of the dead on October 31st,” former witch turned Christian Jenny Weaver explained on Instagram. “[The pagan worshippers] were freeing them to return to their homes and their families to entertain them…If the spirit did not find an acceptable welcome, the spirits would cast spells or cause other problems for the family that was alive…They opened the door to the demonic realm.”
While it can be uncomfortable for Christian parents to choose for their families to not engage with the holiday, parents should seriously consider why they are celebrating Halloween to begin with. Ultimately, the most important thing is to consider where your heart is at and turn to Jesus for guidance. At the same time, it is important to understand where the holiday finds it roots.
Can we redeem Halloween?
“The truth about Halloween — Halloween is the highest day on the Satanic calendar,” explained a former satanic church leader. “It is also the night of the year where there is the most human sacrifice on the whole planet. So, if we look at it in a — let’s call it the popular culture aspect first. So many people think Halloween is about candy and it’s about dress-up, but they don’t question the meaning behind it.”
“We have to make sure that we are in righteous standing with God, that we do not have any hidden sin or open doors in our life,” he continued. “Then, it is about praying. Being in serious prayer that people who celebrate Halloween…that whilst they are doing that, they will actually have a true encounter with Christ.”
This is how the Needham’s choose to engage with the holiday, and it amazing to see. Hopefully more Christians take Halloween as an opportunity to share the Gospel and make an amazing impact on their communities.
