Could a VIRGIN RIVER and SULLIVAN’S CROSSING crossover be in the works?

“We have to, right?” VIRGIN RIVER star Ben Hollingsworth told Us Weekly. “I think that’s perfect and that would be amazing. I love that romance drama is really having a comeback and it’s gotten such momentum there.”

The shows are both based on books written by Robyn Carr, making a potential crossover a perfect way to blend the author’s fictional worlds for fans of the shows.

VIRGIN RIVER star Zibby Allen said she “feel[s] like that could happen,” adding “I love a crossover situation.”

While a crossover is still just a dream for fans, there’s still plenty of content from both series. Netflix already renewed VIRGIN RIVER for an eighth season.

“On behalf of myself and the whole VIRGIN RIVER family, we’re eternally grateful to Netflix and to the fans for allowing us to continue on this journey with these beloved characters,” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Tudum.

In a 2023 interview with Deadline, Smith added, “There’s no plans of wrapping anything up. I think, as long as these characters are living, there are always going to be stories to tell, and that’s an incredible opportunity for any showrunner.”

SULLIVAN’S CROSSING is about to premiere a new season, but one familiar face will be missing — Scott Patterson, who played Sully, recently announced he will not be returning to the show.

“I fell in love with Sully and have nothing but fondness for him,” he said in a statement. “The creative differences were becoming untenable and I just sadly realized that the show was not something that I could agree to continue.”

The GILMORE GIRLS star added that, despite the network making it seem as if his departure was a creative decision on the part of the show’s team, he was ultimately the one to walk away from SULLIVAN’S CROSSING.

“The fans deserved better than to think the embodiment of this character, me, would just disrespect not only the show, but them,” Patterson continued. “In the end, we’re all fans of these characters and stories, and I’ll always support and defend the truth.”

Movieguide® gave the first episode of SULLIVAN’S CROSSING Season 3 a -1 content score. VIRGIN RIVER Season 6 Episode 1 received a -2 due to some immoral content.

Season 7 of VIRGIN RIVER just hit Netflix, while SULLIVAN’S CROSSING’s fourth season will premiere on The CW on April 20.
