It looks like dinosaurs are dominating the world once more — the world box office, that is. JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH just brought in over $300 million internationally in its first five days in theaters.
“[JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH had] a higher worldwide opening than previously reported, that being $322.5M worldwide (instead of $318M+) with $147.8M domestic over five days and $174.7M foreign take,” Deadline reported.
It’s the second-biggest opening for a JURASSIC PARK movie, behind 2015’s JURASSIC WORLD, which opened with $525.5 million. For comparison, REBIRTH’s predecessor, JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION, debuted with $145 million, going on to make $1 billion worldwide. Overall, the JURASSIC movies have made roughly $6 billion, excluding REBIRTH.
These high numbers are noteworthy for another reason — industry insiders did not expect such a huge box office haul.
“The holiday total for JURASSIC WORLD [REBIRTH] in the U.S. and Canada exceeded industry expectations,” the L.A. Times reported. “Universal Pictures’ JURASSIC WORLD reboot was expected to gross $120 million to $130 million during its long opening weekend, according to analyst and studio projections.”
Instead, the movie made $147.3 million in the US and Canada over the Fourth of July weekend, beating out the Brad Pitt-led F1, which came in second at the box office with $26.1 million domestically.

JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH’s box office success has set a new benchmark for Hollywood stars as well, pushing lead Scarlett Johansson to the No. 1 spot on the list of Hollywood’s highest-grossing lead actors.
“According to data from The Numbers, [JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH] gives Johansson a lifetime career box office gross of $14.8 billion in films where she plays a lead role or a lead ensemble role,” The Wrap reported, adding that over half of that number comes from her Marvel projects, where Johansson played Natasha Romanov, a.k.a. Black Widow.
It’s unsurprising the latest JURASSIC movie is ruling the box office this summer. In addition to the long-time popularity of the franchise, JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH is also earning positive reviews.
Movieguide® called the movie “one of the great, all-time adventure movies,” praising it for its “heart,” as well as its “tremendously exciting, suspenseful action sequences.”
As audiences continue to show up for JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH, it looks like the dinosaurs will continue to rule this summer’s box office.
