A recent car accident almost took Christian rapper KB’s life, but he’s using the experience to remind all of us that God is really in control.

“Head-on collision yesterday. Maybe the devil was trying to take me out,” he posted about the April 1 accident. “I care a lot less about what he was trying to do…I’m focused on what I’ve been called to do.”

KB, whose real name is Kevin Burgess, continued, “If you’ve been following me, you know this is my second car this year that I was in that was totaled. I’m not gonna talk about if the devil’s trying to take me out or not — he might be, probably is — but I am far more concerned about what the Lord is doing in me than what the devil’s trying to do to me.”

He experienced something unexpected in the moments before.

“This one was unique because all of a sudden there was a two-ton vehicle in front of me barreling towards me and I had two seconds before impact,” he recalled. “Something strange happened in the car, two seconds before impact. The first second, alright, the amygdala — alright for my neuroscientists out there — the amygdala was popping, alright.”

“The part of my brain that was trying to keep me alive, giving me all the cortisol and adrenaline that I needed,” KB explained. “I started looking around, fight or flight, I’m trying to figure out how do I protect, how do I save myself. That second went and left very quickly.”

“[Then] there was a second second that felt much longer,” he continued. “And in that second second, it was me embracing the fact that nothing I could do — me and this car colliding — there was no way out, and I had this strange feeling of calm and peace and a kind of comfort right before impact.”

The rapper said that “anxiety” and “a little bit of panic” quickly followed when his electric vehicle began to fill with smoke and he tried to find a way out.

“But before that moment, there was a peace that overtook my soul that was predicated upon one simple thing: my life was completely at the mercy of the will of God for me in that moment. Whether I live, whether I die, whether I sink or I swim, it was so outside of my hands that there was no debating or negotiating,” KB reflected. “And because of the presence of our God, I was okay with it.”

“Of course the Lord spared me…but I’m okay.”

The scary incident reminded him that he’s ultimately not in control of any part of his life, referencing Psalm 55:22, which says, “Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.”

The accident occurred just days before KB kicked off his “The Signal Tour” alongside artists Terrian & Trip Lee.

“I might be moving a little slower but my praise is way deeper!” he said of the accident’s impact on his tour performance. “He [God] has saved me again.”

Praise God that He kept KB safe and used the accident to teach him — and all of us — an important lesson.
