Actor Kel Mitchell Encourages Followers to Trust God Amid ‘Uncertainty’

Actor, comedian and pastor Kel Mitchell recently jumped on Instagram to share the “secret ingredient” in his morning brew: faith.

“Ya’ll know I know about improv comedy, right…,” the actor shared in an Instagram video. “In improv, there’s a lot of uncertainty. You don’t know what’s going to happen next, but you’ve got to trust your castmates and know that it’s going to get to the end. And it’s going to be fun when you get there.”

Mitchell encourages his followers to count on God to pull through, just as his castmates do for him.

“Same thing with the Lord—he’s saying trust me in this moment.” He continued, “All right, I’m going to get you there, but trust me in this moment. There’s some uncertainty, but you have your faith.”

He captioned his post, “Faith: the secret ingredient in my morning brew! Starting the day with a cup full of trust and a whole lot of belief. ☕ ??✨✨ #BrewingFaith #YouGotThis ??? #trustGod.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Mitchell’s decision to become a pastor:

“I’ve always known God,” Mitchell explained. “Grew up in a church, but there’s a difference between knowing God and having a relationship with God. And I just got to a point in my life where I wanted to make sure that He was in everything that I do. Because when I was trying to figure out everything on my own, I got into a lot of frustration and situations.”

“The thing about it is that a lot of depression comes from internalizing frustration, and you need to get it out,” he went on. “And you need to know that you’re loved by God and you were born for a purpose. When I figured that out, I wanted others to know that as well because He was always there for me in the ups and downs of my life.”

Mitchell recently made an analogy with Western-style “wanted” posters. He says that in the posters, a reward is advertised for when a wanted person gets turned in. Just like that, God puts out wanted posters for his children.

“He’s got wanted posters out; he’s looking for you; he’s seeking you. You are wanted by God. And what we need to do is surrender to him.” Mitchell said. “When I say surrender I mean surrender all… And then we get the reward. That reward is blessings, grace, and eternal inheritance.”

Some of his other recent encouragements for followers include kindness. The actor said, “Today, go out and say something very very encouraging [and] very very nice to someone today. Because you don’t know how that can change their entire day. It’s health to the body. That’s the power of kindness.”
