Korn’s Brian Welch Shares Testimony: ‘I Met The Real Jesus’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Former Korn member Brian “Head” Welch recently spoke about how he came to Christ.
“I met the Lord in 2005,” he said during an appearance on “The Storytellers with Andrew Erwin” podcast. “Got all these dreams and visions of what I thought I wanted to do…I wanted to do music about my faith.”
Welch said before he found faith, he “was a walking dead man. I was a walking shell…there was nothing filled in me except emptiness.”
The rockstar also shared details about the moment that changed everything for him.
“I met the real Jesus in my house. I didn’t see Him in a vision, or in a form, but it was almost as real,” Welch said. “I was instantly filled with this supernatural life. I was filled with a tangible forgiveness from Him.”
His friends and family were initially hesitant about Welch’s newfound faith, with some saying his recent drug detox might be the reason for this life change.
Welch said he had to accept that “God has to do it. God has to do supernatural revelation work so that they will come in and accept what you’ve [accepted].”
Welch recently celebrated his “spiritual birthday.”
“People thought it was a practical joke, but what happened on the inside of me was no joke at all and it is just as powerful and secure today – 19 years later!” he wrote on Instagram. “Coming to the end of myself was so precious because it helped me come to a profound realization: 1. I truly despised myself 2. my ecoic, depressed, addicted view of my existence had to die. Laying my life down in the Jordan river waters in Israel symbolized that death to self.”
Welch continued, “New life will never be birthed until a death happens; a laying down of one’s pride and egotistical state of mind.”
The guitarist is now making a difference in the lives of others through his latest project, Atlantic Behavioral Health, a treatment center that provides outpatient treatment for those dealing with mental health issues.
“Partnering with Atlantic is so personal to me and not just another business to invest in. I know what it feels like to live at the bottom of a dark pit, but I also know if you put in the work, the light will come back on, and Atlantic is going to help so many people find that light switch,” Welch explained. “With the exception of a few bumps in the road, over the last 20 years, I have been the happiest I’ve ever been in my life. I believe if I can completely change the trajectory of my mental and emotional health, anyone can! Atlantic can be such a precious tool in helping people to achieve just that.”
Movieguide® previously reported on how faith helped Welch overcome his addiction struggles:
Welch’s life changed completely after some business partners shared the gospel with him. He started attending church, and the pastor told him it didn’t matter if he was on drugs because God would cleanse him.
“When I met Jesus and…gave him a chance to show [me] that he’s real, you hear it all the time, but it actually is true, and it’s like the chains broke,” Welch said. “And the prison opened up, and I came out, and I found my contentment. I found peace, and that cloud couldn’t come after me anymore.”
“I knew that I could fight for my sobriety with him and then walk with him.” He continued, “Just like I toured on drugs and sent drugs to myself all over the world, I knew I was going to walk with Jesus and go set people free with him all over the world.”
