Lauren Daigle Says Writing Hit Song ‘Thank God I Do’ ‘Set Me Free’

Lauren Daigle recently performed her hit single “Thank God I Do” to close out Fox News’ “All American Christmas Concert Series.”
“I don’t know who I’d be if I didn’t know You,” Daigle sang, accompanied by a piano. “Thank God, I do.”
“Thank God I Do” is the opening track on Daigle’s self-titled 2023 album and spent 20 weeks at the top of the Billboard charts.
“With its latest week at the summit, Daigle becomes the first soloist with two No. 1s to have reigned for at least 20 weeks each; her crossover smash ‘You Say’ dominated for a record 132 frames beginning in July 2018,” Billboard reported.
The singer was even named Billboard’s Top Christian Artist of the Year.
“It’s been an incredible year,” Daigle told Billboard. “New creative collaborators, new producers, new writers and most of all new friends. Our fans on the road have been so incredible and we can feel their love and their energy every single night, and for me that connection (to our music) is inspiring.”
“I am so unbelievable grateful for [my fans],” she continued. “To be able to do what I love and look forward to so much more in ’24.”
The singer-songwriter has previously spoken about the inspiration behind “Thank God I Do.”
“I had this panic attack that lasted for like seven hours,” she told ChristianHeadlines. “And my mom and a friend sat with me through it. I’d never known what this was, I didn’t know what was happening.”
She continued, “I wrote the song right after that with [singer/songwriter] Jason Ingram…And I wrote it just because it was the clearest picture of God that I had seen in a long time. Just seeing Him love me through other people who didn’t give any element of shame or rejection or like, ‘This girl’s losing her mind.’ They were just with me in the process. And it set me free. That’s why I ended up writing a song about it.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Daigle’s success with “Thank God I Do”:
CCM artist Lauren Daigle’s single “Thank God I Do” from her self-titled album recently hit number one on the Christian charts.
“Lauren Daigle’s ‘Thank God I Do’ ascends to No. 1 on Billboard’s Christian Airplay and Christian AC Airplay rankings dated July 29, as she scores a fivefold chart domination not achieved since her own ‘You Say’ over four years ago,” reported Billboard.
This comes after her self-titled album charted at No.1 on the Christian Albums chart this May, Billboard added. “Thank God I Do” marks Daigle’s fifth and sixth No.1 on the Billboard charts for Christian Airplay and Christian AC Airplay, respectively.
“Wow, just wow. It has been absolutely incredible seeing how people have connected to ‘Thank God I Do,’ and receiving the news that it has reached No. 1 at radio is so special. It means more than words to see the continued support and enthusiasm for this new music, which is so close to my heart,” Daigle shared, per Billboard.
