Letitia Wright Says SOUND OF HOPE: THE STORY OF POSSUM TROT Will Bring ‘Change’

Angel Studios’ upcoming release, SOUND OF HOPE: THE STORY OF POSSUM TROT, hopes to change the lives of children in the foster care system.
The film will be released in theaters on July 4, 2024, and follows the true story of Donna and Reverend Martin who encouraged their community to help children in the foster care system. Their drive led families to adopt 77 children in need of homes.
BLACK PANTHER star Letitia Wright produced the movie and shared her love for this story.
“I was told about the Martin family in Possum Trot, Texas a few years ago. Immediately I was moved by their compassion and love towards helping children within the foster care system, I found a similar feeling of purpose and desire for change alongside the director and writer who have known the Martins for many years,” she said in a press release. “This film will connect to hearts all over the world and will bring real impact and change for children not only in America but across the world.”
Writer and producer Rebekah Weigel reflected on the immense need in the foster care system and how the Martins’ church made a huge difference.
“SOUND OF HOPE: THE STORY OF POSSUM TROT is the sound of a courageous little church standing up and fighting for children who are being exploited and abused,” she said. “There are more than 100,000 kids languishing in the foster system in America that need a family, and their deep cry for healing will be heard through this film. It’s time to follow this community’s lead, across this nation and around the world. We are so excited to partner with Angel Studios to ignite the movement to end the foster crisis.”
Angel Studios is a crowd-funded company that created inspirational movies such as Teddy Bear Award® winner SOUND OF FREEDOM, which earned $250 million at the worldwide box office, and AFTER DEATH, a documentary that explores near-death experiences.
Movieguide® previously reported on what makes Angel Studios successful:
Angel Studios vice president Brandon Purdie believes his company’s unique moviemaking model is the reason their movies succeed despite little support from the outside.
“I’ve been doing this for 20 years,” Purdie told Christian Headlines. “And I think this is the first time I would say, ‘This is a game-changer.’ This is something that innovates the industry forever…”
Purdie is referencing the unique way that Angel Studios chooses their projects. Angel lets their audience vote on the projects that they fund through their “Angel Guild.” This allows the studio to create movies that their audience wants to see and release them with a core audience already built…
As for Angel, “by the time we come to opening weekend, we’re not going to the theater to find out whether we have an audience. We’re going with the audience that already voted for the project to go to Angel, already helped get it to be crowdfunded. We’re going to the theater to celebrate with a built community that’s passionate about the project. And that’s why we’re having these successes,” Purdie explained. “That’s what’s so unique about Angel.”
